Beautiful and timeless. The place is nice. Granted, it's rustic-ish, but in terms of it's location, if you're looking for a "5 star" place, you should probably be looking elsewhere, probably an hour or so to the northwest. Most of the rooms share communal bathrooms - which is appropriate for the style and period of the place - while the honeymoon suite has everything that a modern building would offer. The complimentary breakfast isn't a buffet, it's the owner's cooking up something fresh and delicious and the area seems , generally, 10° cooler than any other landlocked location. Which brings me to the next point - there's no A/C, but the weather's so nice on this stretch of land that it doesn't seem necessary anyway - just open the windows and let the air flow (which is one of the reasons this was "the" destination back in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They've got enough room to host events (including modest weddings), and it seems that groups book this ENTIRE place for a couple of days at a time during the summer. I have stayed here more than once, and while it's different, it's a place that I love, and while it might be more rustic than what the modern stay is expected to be, I've got no regrets. ...will stay again.

We rented the whole lodge with a group of friends for 3 nights. Bathrooms are clean, breakfast is delicious, caretakers are friendly and helpful. We used the kitchen to cook some of our own meals which was great. Little store down the road has good pizza and sandwiches. Loved canoeing the lake, though the canoes were pretty nasty and needed cleaning out. Beds need new mattresses, but the frames are in good shape. Awesome outdoor space with swings and cool fire pit. Lots of tables for all the board games we brought with us.

Nice, authentic lodge. If you prefer a softer bed, bring a foam topper. They are transitioning from family style breakfast to continental. Someone mentioned in a previous review that they canceled their reservation because it looked old and "run down ". Not sure what they were expecting but it is old. Over 100 years old. To me that's a higlight! The building was structurally sound, great water pressure and hot water for shower. The ambience of the setting was charming and the owners were friendly. Quiet setting. If it's warm, you may need a box fan. I'm sure the owners would be happy to lend one. Can't beat the price! Hope to be back.

Spent a fabulous night in the Honeymoose suite, canoed Grand Lake the next day, and had great conversations with Robin. I wish we could have stayed more nights but will definitely return for a longer stay. The lodge is really, really cool and the lake is gorgeous. Huron waters are amazing too—color and landscape plus lighthouses are wonderful!
