I took a complete chance on Liz’s Discount Fabrics and it was the best decision I ever made! When I bought a half-mesh designer corset that was 2x too small for me, I prayed that there would be a seamstress talented enough to make it work. Unfortunately, I didn’t know any as the one I had been using for 2 years recently went out of business. I chose Liz’s completely based off of the reviews, close proximity to me, and blind faith.First, the woman who helps you at the counter at the front is INCREDIBLY helpful. I brought the corset in without a clue of what material would be best suited for the alterations - and she recommended one with some spandex in it so it had stretch to it. I had no idea they had an in-house seamstress when I came in, so when the employee mentioned that they might be able to squeeze me in for alterations, I was hesitant but took the chance anyway.I expected the corset to not only take a while but to also be pricey, so when they quoted me $25 and a week of work time I was honestly so surprised. My previous tailor would’ve charged me $50+ easy to work on something so delicate!I do recommend calling before you come in just in case they’re behind on your alterations as there is only ONE seamstress and she has 10000 projects to work on - but when you see the quality she delivers for the cheap price, it’s EASILY forgivable. She replaced two panels on the back of the corset with the new material I bought and I literally couldn’t tell the difference between the seamstress’s work and the original designer’s.I’ll be bringing EVERYTHING I need alterations on here from now on! Thank you!!!----4/3/23Most recently, I dropped off a white lace top that I needed 4 extra inches in order to comfortably fit around my bust. The seamstress had me try it on, took her measurements, and then told me to come back within a week. I originally bought a panel of white satin fabric straight from Liz’s to be used to extend the top (it was only $3 for half a yard!), however when I returned, it turned out the seamstress had taken it upon herself to use a panel of really pretty, delicate lace (which matched the top perfectly!) – the lace she used was no doubt more expensive than the satin fabric I originally brought in yet it came at no extra cost to me. As always, the top fit me perfectly – and it was ready just in time for an event I am going to attend this week. The total alteration came out to a mere $15 – unheard of considering the time and craftsmanship that went into the alterations. In comparison, I went to a different seamstress last year in Queens that charged me $30 to simply resew a couple of buttons on a sweater – a process that takes an exponentially less amount of time than expanding the length of a top. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when bringing your pieces to be tailored:• Call before you come in to pick up your piece(s), even if she told you it’d be ready for a specific day: there is typically only ONE seamstress and she has TONS of projects so sometimes she’ll need you to come in later in the day in order to ensure your alterations are complete.• Both the seamstress and Liz’s are CASH ONLY – there’s an ATM outside of the store, but it is often out of order• The seamstress only speaks Spanish – however, the woman who works the front of the store is very sweet and a great translator if you need it! You will not find a more affordable and gifted seamstress than the one at Liz’s – I can say this for a fact as I work in fashion professionally myself and understand the cost and labor that goes into alterations. Additionally, Liz’s itself has incredible prices and a great selection of different fabrics if you’re looking to start your own sewing project!

The lady running the store was extremely unprofessional and rude. She was definitely not in the mood to work. She literally told me to come back another day because the fabric was too heavy for her to take down and if I wanted it so badly then “I should go get it myself”.

The man running the store was very rude, he basically kicked me out of the store because he said he was going on break. He wouldn't give me 10 minutes to finish picking my fabric. Plus there wasn't a nice variety of patterns or fabric, there were zero beautiful prints. I went to a different fabric store nearby and it was great, so from now on I will go there instead of Liz Discount Fabrics.

Horrible customer service! I went in to buy three fabrics and the lady working there was very rude. Didn't assist me in picking out and cutting the fabric, but was very nice to the other customers. Then she tried to rudely rush me out of the store since it was near closing time, when I already had the fabrics selected. Never going in there again.

Chock full of fabrics and supplies! Their selection of their colors isn't great, but they have enough to work with and loads of other seeing/crafting add-on's that is worth checking out.
