Pet Grooming
Scavello Sisters Pet Supplies
Unit #6, 62 Franklin St, WesterlyI was thrilled with the grooming experience they provided for my Coton. The Coton de Tulear breed has hair that feels like cotton. I was nervous about having his hair trimmed & there isn't a groomer in the area that wanted to groom a Coton. I took him to the Scavello Sisters so they could see my pup. (I didn't call before just walking in). Linda took one look at him and exclaimed "A Coton!" I asked if they would groom him & they said no problem. When I picked him up after he was done I was amazed! He looked beautiful, like a show dog! I will be making appointments for my Coton with the Scavello Sisters for future, regular grooming needs. They listened to how I wanted him groomed, but I never expected the beautiful result! Looking for a competent groomer, I recommend the Scavello Sisters.

Moore Cathy DVM
3 Ashaway Rd, WesterlyMy elderly Frenchie was stricken with a sudden and very severe illness the evening of Labor Day while we were on our annual beach vacation in the area. It was pretty clear his final day had come. The next morning, Turco was the closest animal hospital with the earliest opening time. I showed up with him, distraught and emotional, right at 8 am. Not a regular patient and of course with no appointment. Devon K, a Client Service Representative and the sweetest, most empathetic person I have encountered in a long time, listened intently to my story, disappeared in back for a minute or two, and emerged to tell me, "we can take you." He escorted us to a nearby treatment room, where Dr. Mack examined the old guy, helped me come to terms with what I already knew had to happen, and, assisted by her vet tech, euthanized my old pal with the utmost care and gentleness. I can't say enough about how these folks made this heart-wrenching experience a little better, just by being emotionally supportive and present for us. Special thanks to Devon for being so sweet and helpful when we needed it most.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants
STICK + FIN
163 Main St, WesterlyDo yourself a favor and check this place out! We got the OG toast (avocado and everything seasoning), the Montauk toast and a piece of GF banana bread. To drink we had an iced coffee and an iced chai latte. Everything was made to perfection! The vibe inside is so cool and tastefully decorated with beach decor and local goods for sale. They have a super cute patio in the back that overlooks the water which was awesome for a nice day like today. The owners, Brian and Chiyoko, were there and couldn’t have been nicer. We will definitely be back!

Grey Sail Tap Room
65 Canal St, WesterlyFabulous antique home with many seating options both inside and out. Interesting architecture inside and great picnic vibe outside. The beer menu was diverse from DIPAs to NWIPA to sours and cider. I found the NEIPA to be very good with grapefruit undertones. But the cream ale was middle of the road to in my opinion. The inside was fun and comfortable, until we were driven outside by a woman at the next table whose volume rose increasingly. It would have been fine but she was excruciatingly boring. In the end I want to thank her. The outside was delightful!! You can bring in your own food, and there is a lot of seating. Overall a great experience!!!

The Restaurant at Weekapaug Inn
25 Spray Rock Rd, Westerly2 couples, 6:30 reservation, at the end of May. The day was sunny and warm and we walked around the lovely grounds before going in. If we'd been inclined we could have had a drink in the Adirondack chairs on the lawn over looking the salt pond. Our waiter was very attentive, but some communication was a little awkward—for instance, when asked what the oysters were, he replied the regular ones. We finally did talk him into finding out the name—and they turned out to be from the cove in front of the restaurant. So in truth, they were really the regular ones, it just wasn't clear to us what he meant. Three times during the meal the serving support individual interrupted our conversation, for instance to tell us about the amuse bouche or bread, as though they were in a hurry. An a la carte main menu or a 4 course tasting menu with wine pairings were options. Our meal choices—asparagus soup, farm vegetable platter, spring pea salad, oysters, duck breast w lamb sausage, filet mignon, pan seared haddock, and short rib gnocchi—were all excellent and generous, but not overwhelming in size, and the service was well coordinated. The wine and spirit list was reasonably extensive—I would love to study it more. Lattes and cappuccinos were available as decaf or high test. We have been previously, say once or twice a year, over the years and we will definitely return. The ‘veranda' seating outside over looking the lawn and pond is wonderful when the evening weather permits.

Dee's Goldens
6 Laurel Ave, WesterlyOur golden from Dee's turned out to be the best companion we could have ever asked for. He was very handsome and had the greatest disposition you could want in a dog. Everyone who knew him fell in love with him! Dorene, the owner of Dee's, was very informative from the beginning of the process and was available consistently through Jackson's life. Over the course of nearly nine years, we contacted her with questions ranging from diet, to grooming, to supplements, and she would always respond quickly, giving us guidance and helpful information. She even came to our house in North Kingstown once to help us do some obedience training. We appreciate all that she did for us. We cannot recommend her highly enough.

Stand Up For Animals
33 Larry Hirsch Ln, WesterlyHighly responsive to the needs of the local region regarding animal adoptions and care. Also, very active for such a small organization in supporting the area and the animals it cares for. I am concerned about the one negative review which seems as though the reviewer might have been complaining about the town's dog park which really has nothing to do with the Stand Up For Animals organization or its personnel and it sounds like he may have been in the wrong place with his comments and his bag of broken glass.
