Thyri (Thordarson) Bainter, (Thyri pronounced Theory) opened the Squeeze Inn Café in 1932 it had one counter, 12 stools and was only 8 feet wide. After her husband Olin, a volunteer fireman, died in his barber chair in 1937 after a fire run, Thyri could have moved back east to live with her relatives but she had a deep love for Zillah. Thyri's Icelandic tenacity ran deep. She had started the Squeeze Inn and she was going to see it through.
Ted Bainter, son of Thyri and Olin, along with his wife Marge, took over the the business in the 1940's. Rod Bainter, the youngest son of Ted and Marge, with the help of his two daughters Beth and Laura keep the business going today.
