These are my go-to guys for my Porsche and BMW work. Even when my car still has factory warranty remaining! These folks have never failed me. Always have been reasonably priced, always provided top level work, and has always been reliable. One of the greatest businesses Birmingham has!

Said they only worked on European vehicles but Audi is a European car as well. She didn’t want to service me at all or listen to what I had to say!

My '06 LR3 alternator went bad and although it was December 21 and his other 2 mechanics were out sick and he had 5 other cars to work on AND it was my first time there(so it wasn't like I was a regular), Mike did the repair in 2 days!!!! And after talking to multiple people who own Rovers, I know it will be down correct the first time!! Mike has a loyal customer as long as I own Rovers.

I've been a customer of The Auto Shop for 35 years, and I am sure most of the people who go there have also been longtime clients and friends. But when I started going there, I was an 18 yr old kid with an MGB, and they certainly didn't work on my car because they thought they'd make a lot of money from me. The mechanics who work there, Paul, Louis, and Mike, own the shop themselves. When you are talking with them about your car, you are talking to the guys who do the work, pay the bills, and make the decisions. Paul concentrates on German cars. Louis on British cars, and Michael on Swedish and Japanese luxury brands. Make no mistake: this is high-end car shop. There's usually a Ferrari or something else I could never afford sitting there. (I have no idea who works on Italian cars, and maybe I'll ask next time I go there.) The difference from many high-end shops is that The Auto Shop will NEVER try to talk a customer into unnecessary repairs or upgrades. They have plenty of work, and there is always a week to 10 days' wait for service, but that's because all their customers are so loyal. My son's godmother continues to bring her Jaguar to Louis even though she loved to Fairhope about 5 years ago. She will not let another mechanic touch her car. She's a business owner and knows a good deal when she sees it. 40 years of happy and satisfied customers has created a base of very loyal customers. Also, their customers are probably old enough that they don't use Yelp but don't tell the godmother I said that! I suspect the guy who wrote the other review may be a j*** and they just didn't work with him. I just wanted to make sure Yelp had the right impression of these guys. They know a lot more about cars than you do, but they are always happy to answer your questions. They never talked down to me even when I was a kid. I owned several cars after the MG that were worthy of The Auto Shop's attention - including my dad's old Delta 88 and my mother's old Suzuki Samurai (a tiny SUV that Consumer Reports said was too dangerous to be on the road) after I wrecked the MG. Hey, I was in school. When I had been working a little while and could afford it, I bought a used BMW M3 (it's an E36 if you know BMWs). Paul has been working on that car for 20 years! I've taken it to the track many times and it's been through a couple wrecks - I recommend Joe Hudson Nearby for bodywork - but it has definitely been kept going by the love and care it's received at the Auto Shop.I know several other customers who also take their cars to the track, mostly BMW and Porsche customers, and you are trusting your life and safety to your mechanic. Take your car to someone who cares about it as much as you do.

I can't say enough good things about Louis, Paul and Mike. I deal mostly with Mike as he does an excellent job servicing and maintaining my car. He also explains things completely and you know what is going to be serviced...and what to expect from any conversation you have with him. Most important, he cares about more than just the vehicle; he values the relationship between customer (friend) and the shop. Louis did some work on an old Jaguar that was giving me trouble and he was MORE than reasonable on the charge as I know he put much more time into the car than normal. He took is as a personal challenge to get the car operating. Paul services cars for my brother and has no complaints. All any of these guys do is try to help initially and then do the work needed. I have gotten to know Louis, Paul and Mike very well and always enjoy my regularly scheduled maintenance visits.

Professionalism vs Arrogance I think these guys do great work but feel talked down to every time I speaking with them. I hate making bad reviews but, after consistently being talked to as if I was a child is inappropriate at best. They are way busy and may or may not have time for you so watch out if you NEED them. I would expect better customer service. It's obvious they are spoiled by their wealthy 'collector car' enthusiasts who are their bread and butter. I had a horrible experience with them about 20 years ago, gave them a chance again and found it even worse.

Best service place in Alabama for a European car. I had an MG in the 80s and they took care of it (even if they rolled their eyes a bit) and I got a used BMW M3 in 2000, and they have taken care of it wonderfully, even adapting it to track use - and I beat 911s regularly. Probably because those guys don't use The Auto Shop.
