Bank of the West is a financial services holding institution that is based out of San Francisco, California. The bank is a subsidiary of BNP Paribas and currently has over 700 branches in the Western and Midwestern US. Bank of the West started as Farmers National Gold Bank of San Jose, California in 1874. During the shift from bank notes to gold and silver currency in 1880, this institution moved from a gold national bank and subsequently got a new name, choosing their name as First National Bank of San Jose, California. Bank of the West currently owns 45 locations and possesses $350 million in assets.
