Aldi Plans to Open More Than 180 Stores Across 31 States in 2026

Aldi is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the United States with an ambitious plan to open more than 180 new stores across 31 states in 2026, pushing its footprint closer to 3,200 stores by the end of 2028.

The expansion includes entering two new states - Maine and Colorado - while strengthening its presence in fast-growing markets like Phoenix and Las Vegas. The grocer will also open three new distribution centers over the next three years to support the growth.

"One-in-three U.S. households shopped at Aldi this past year, and in 2026 we're focused on making it even easier for customers to shop our aisles first," said Atty McGrath, CEO of Aldi U.S. "That means bringing Aldi to even more neighborhoods, upgrading our website and planning additional distribution centers to keep our shelves stocked with the products our shoppers love."

Maine will become Aldi's 40th U.S. state when a store opens in Portland this year. Colorado represents an even bigger commitment - the chain plans to open 50 stores there over the next five years, starting with locations in Denver and Colorado Springs within the first two years. A distribution center in Aurora, Colorado, is projected to open in 2029 to support that expansion.

Out West, Phoenix will gain 10 new Aldi stores in 2026, with plans for 40 total new stores in that market by 2030. Las Vegas, where Aldi opened four stores last year, will see its store count double by 2030.

In the Southeast, Aldi will convert close to 80 Southeastern Grocers locations to the Aldi format this year. The chain acquired Southeastern Grocers in 2024 and has already converted nearly 90 stores, with plans for more than 200 total by the end of 2027.

To support the expansion, Aldi will open distribution centers in Baldwin, Florida (2027), and Goodyear, Arizona (2028), in addition to the Colorado facility. Each center will bring hundreds of new jobs to its region. The company is also expanding its Haines City, Florida, distribution center to include a new chilled center for perishable foods.

By 2028, Aldi will have invested $9 billion over five years to grow its footprint, strengthen its supply chain, and improve online shopping.
