Other Information

You'll find everything from creamy mushroom pastas to shrimp pizza to escargot on the menu at this classic spot on Valley Blvd., but what they're known for is their Hainan chicken. So much so, in fact, it's painted along the side of the parking garage: ?Famous Hainan Chicken since 1982.? The dish itself is pretty simple. You won't find any accouterments or bone broths here, but instead a simple presentation of moist poached chicken, rice, and three sauces. The ginger garlic spread here is particularly garlicky?ask for extras.
A welcome exception to the florescent-lit, barren dining rooms of too many other Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood, Savoy Kitchen provides outdoor tables and a cool beat indoors. It further distinguishes itself with its creative fusion dishes. The menu is limited to pastas, curries, pizzas and a few house favorites. Hainan chicken rice is a star attraction --- it comes with three all-important dipping sauces: sweet soy sauce, minced ginger with scallions marinated in oil, and a sambal base of red chile and lime juice. Wondering about the Chinese interpretation of pizza? The dough is made with potato starch and toppings might include enoki, oyster and button mushrooms with a cream sauce, or a "seafood combination" with shrimp, squid and scallops over mozzarella. For pastas, you can try ground sirloin and roasted pork loin with tomato sauce in angel hair. There are other house specialties, like baked halibut or a roasted Cornish game hen. Dessert is limited to crème brûlée. Avoid the dinner rush if possible as you may face long lines, and be warned parking can be challenging too.
