I submitted a change of address at this location and after waiting 3 weeks waiting for mail I went back down there and they wouldn’t give me any answers about my paperwork and just wanted me to wait longer
Turns out they never filed my paperwork and I just filed online. Wasted a huge amount of time and not to even mention the legal documents and checks that are being returned to sender because of their incompetence.
Just submit it online I guess. Bureaucracy is trash and I’d like to see USPS get defunded

Unprofessional and unhelpful staff.
I had a package delivered to my address that wasn't mine (wrong name, wrong address). Stopped by the post office to ask if they would take it. The guy at the counter lectured me about how it wasn't a USPS package (yeah ok, I get it).
I then asked what I should do given that he couldn't help me, to which he said it is now my package and that I should just open it. Wouldn't that be a felony? lol. I walked out and he continued making snarky comments about me coming in as I left, which I heard all the way at my car through an open window. I have never left a review anywhere before, but this whole experience felt off putting enough to do so.
Afterwards, I tried Post Haste instead, where they politely gave me a printed out sheet of different contacts and post offices to go to where I could get help with my specific situation, and answered my questions calmly and professionally. Always a much better, respectful experience there.

I have never had a transaction here that did not force me to return several times. It has happened 3 times in a row. They are not accommodating at all. I would rather go out of my way to go to Eureka.

The person “helping me” at the counter was trying to find any reason he could to not release my mail to me. The address on my ID matches what I was asking for. This was apparent laziness, and not wanting to do his job; even though I was being polite and calm. I unfortunately didn’t catch his name, but whoever he was needs a talk about motivation, and people are coming in because they need the things they have shipped to them.

This post office is the worst in Humboldt county. It has 5 or 6 windows and rarely staffed with more than 2 employees—whom are ridiculously slow

They're always friendly here and I really appreciate that they have a prepaid parcel dropbox so I don't have to wait in line just to drop off my prepaid packages.

I've lived in Arcata for 10 years and lol all I can do is laugh... numerous stories of complete incompetence. Inconceivable.

Kept saying that they would drop off my package until 11:30 PM. Then they said it would be delayed by two days because of extreme weather. It’s already in the town I live in, so I’m not convinced on this “extreme weather”.The only extreme weather is that it’s very cold, and it’s not even wet enough to create ice!

This might be the most chill post office in the country. Takes the sting out of the typical post office experience.

It would be really nice if they posted midweek closures on Google so people don’t drive 20 miles and arrive to find a closed sign.

I love this little office. Even during holiday time when everything & body gets a Lil cray cray- they helped me just fine & my packages got to the destinations just as told. So that's a 5 star. A post office is to do you a favor(in which we tip them in the form of $) by getting something to you as them being a 3rd party. That is it. It's not their job to know 100% about visas & passports- all they do is take a picture for you. So for a USPS Ofice to get my mail to where they said they would get it there & on or before the date --<they did their job> 5 star!

When it comes to handling complaints, there are two types of companies in the world. There's the company that treats the complaint as a disease and the company that treats the complaint as an opportunity. Based on my experience, the Arcata post office falls into the latter category. The attitude I encountered was almost as if serving customers was an inconvenient hassle that was tolerated at best. Not a positive experience. Takes forever. Employees don't seem like they love their jobs. You are serving a customer, not a life sentence. Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning. It costs 7 times more to convert a new customer than to retain an existing customer. The old saying "the customer is always right" makes for good business arithmetic.
