Warning: If anyone can't take care of their pet any longer. Per the California City, City Hall Website. They do take animals.
" The California City animal shelter staff will accept animals from City of California City. Owners will be required to fill out an owner's release form that states they give up ownership of the animal they are turning in and a Euthanasia request form."
If that rude lady that answers the phone that works at the animal shelter tells you she will not take your animal refer back to City Hall Public Announcement and guidelines.
Before you abandon your animal contact the animal shelter and tell that CRAZY RUDE LADY who refuses to take animals the guidelines per City Hall's website.

So rude ! Can’t complete a sentence without being cut off with a smart mouth response & an automatic attitude, like why work there if you hate your job. The first time I’ve ever needed to call & the customer service is disgusting. Made me completely lose interest in adopting a pet from their shelter.

Had questions about a stray was given a good answer. I know that the shelters are full, so they probably could use food and supplies

Rude.
Clearly not in this line of work for the love of animals or with intentions of reuniting lost pets with their owners.

Honestly this is the most safe place for found and lost pets to be in the community. The staff cares and is just as worried about the lost/found/stray population as everyone else is.
This is a resource to the community, they offer more then just a safe place for the pets to sleep they also microchip pets.
Please especially here in the desert consider microchipping your furry friends! It is important to be able to have a contact link above a collar to get your pet back to you!
Thank you cal city pet outreach for all that you do.

Last place you should be adopting an animal. Government entity The doesn’t properly care for animals. California city animal control is an embarrassment. Government employees just trying to steal from our taxes.
