My wife and two year old son were stranded on the way to Tahoe and the team at Carriage House Inn saved the day with an amazing room at a great price and unmatched service. Can’t speak more highly of the team and their kindness during a very stressful night.

Just stayed there the end of November 2023 for three days. I was very impressed with the ease of making a reservation I called directly to them and spoke with Lydia. The rooms are extremely clean and well laid out. Located at the center of town and close to everything. I stayed in the Sierra room facing the river, which was absolutely amazing. I'll be staying here a lot more in the future as I have some property nearby that I like to visit,

Managers Sonya and Mike exemplify what is great about visiting small town California..friendly with us, other locals, and dogs! We spoke of shared mountain bike experiences (Mike and I may tend to expose our wives a bit over their head); they were there for us at any moment during our stay if we needed them...yet otherwise, stayed out of our way to enjoy family vacation.Thankful for people like Sonya and Mike, and places like Downieville, and Carriage House Inn.

The Carriage House Inn is owned by some of the most patient and nicest team of people I have ever met.The town itself is friendly and quiet and just beyond peaceful, compared to the big city. The Carriage House Inn matches that with it's charm. The rooms at the Inn are quaint, with queen size beds and sitting areas and small bathrooms, but the rooms are clean and well stocked with everything you would need to be comfortable during your stay. Our party arrived in Downieville late in the afternoon and after we opted to stay the night in town, we went about securing lodging. Again, the team at the Carriage House Inn went above and beyond to get us situated and ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay.Three of our rooms had balconies that overlooked the river and in the morning it was very peaceful taking in the quietness of town and listening to the rushing of the rapids as we sat and enjoyed our coffee. This is definitely an excellent choice if you find yourself in Downieville and in need of lodging.Nearby activities: River rafting, hiking, fishing, nature walking, mountain biking, camping, drinking.Walkability: The business section in the town of Downieville is about 3 blocks total, so walkability is not an issue.

Arrived late in the day and unexpectedly after we were unable to continue our trip due to weather. Owners were wonderful and helped me and my family (wife and 2x dogs) get settled quickly. Beautiful views, and comfortable/quiet rooms. Would definitely recommend for anyone who needs a quick Sierra getaway

Lydia was the best hotel manager I’ve ever met. So kind and she did everything possible to make us as comfortable as she could. The room is so beautiful so warn, so nice. I’m not from the US and she is by far one of the best American I’ve met. The hotel is absolutely cozy and had everything you’ll need.

My husband and I spent a lovely 2023 Valentine's Day weekend at the Carriage House Inn, in Downieville and we had a terrific time! The check in process was very efficient and easy to follow. We stayed in the Sierra room which features a Queen bed (very comfortable with soft linens and comforter), an en suite shower, small couch, refrigerator, microwave and a lovely deck, overlooking the river. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated with a mix of modern, along with very historical furniture and fixtures - the owner, Sonya, has a terrific flair for marketing and decorating and it shows in many aspects of the Inn and the adjoining businesses. On our last day, we were able to check out some if the other rooms and they were all unique and extremely well decorated, each with a unique color scheme and style. I especially liked the fact that regardless of the size, each room was decorated in a way that took advantage of the space, without feeling overcrowded.Since it was Valentine's Day weekend, included with our room were special Valentine's Day treats, a complimentary bottle of champagne and little heart themed decorations throughout the room. Also included were several discount coupons for food and drinks at the Boomtown Lounge (cocktails and limited dining) and Cold Rush Cafe (ice cream, coffee, and gourmet sandwiches), both of which are also owned by the proprietors of the Inn.The sister property (Riverside Mountain Lodge) is literally over the bridge on the other side of the river, and I have no doubt that it is equally as comfortable. One more thing - if you do stay at the Inn, be sure to ask for the "Pocket Guide to Adventures in Downieville". I found out that Sonya also prepared this guide and it's very well done - cute, fun, and easy to follow. The guide will give you an overview of the history of Downieville as well as local restaurants, events and walking trails nearby.Special shout out to Lydia (reservations), Michelle (everything!) and Robert(?) at the Cold Rush Cafe!

We took a quick road trip to Downieville a few weeks ago, we had not been there before and were eager to explore and relax. Downieville is known for it's epic mountain biking trails but we did not bring our bikes. We stayed at the Carriage House Inn and I can't say enough about how nice our room was, aside from being wonderfully decorated and very cozy, it was clean and so quiet. Our room had a wonderful balcony with chairs overlooking the river. It was incredibly relaxing and we were able to walk to everything - a great dinner and wonderful brunch just a few doors down. The check-in and check-out process was uber convenient too. We absolutely loved it. My very picky husband talked about our stay here for days and we can't wait to return. What a wonderful experience and the Innkeepers were wonderful!!

This hotel is designed to be really easy and stress free. I personally like their red lounge chairs by the river and the balcony off our room. There’s a quite peaceful vibe just sitting there soaking up the sun listening to the river. The rooms are clean and cute and the right price point for a trip to this ridiculously cute town. Everything you’d want is within a block of it which adds to the stress free feeling of the town.
