Tipple's has done good work for me in the past, but not this time. An regular out-of-town visitor, my car began making a pretty frightening noise while driving the 299. Tipple's was the only shop in Ferndale, so I dropped it off, came back later that day and was told by the high-school-aged employee that my alternator was "bad", so I authorized a replacement, and was told I could pick it up the next day.
At noon the next day, I dropped by and the car hadn't even been rolled into the shop yet, and high schooler had "called in sick". They DID get the alternator in by the end of the day so I could still get home on time, but...... the noise was still there..... that hadn't fixed anything. I had no choice, I had to be home, and I did make it, then took it to my regular shop.
It was the A/C compressor, which had eventually frozen up and melted the belt (A/C had its own belt, not a part of the serpentine belt), after which the noise stopped. Now I have an alternator that didn't need replacing, and a $500+ charge to pay. Had they diagnosed it correctly, they could have just removed the belt and I could have dealt with the A/C later.
My advice to Tipple's: Don't hire teenagers who have no diagnostic experience. This was a very expensive mistake. Expensive for me. I hate that this happened..... I've always had good experiences with Tipple's.

I was visiting the area and my car broke down outside of Ferndale, this was the closest auto repair shop and boy did I get lucky. They worked up until the end of day to get my old car back in order so I could continue my trip. They know their stuff, are very respectful, and the nicest people.

We were passing through Ferndale after driving our camper van along the lost coast, where we started leaking power steering fluid. Jerry was more than happy to take a look and let us know exactly what was going on (on Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend none the less!). They didn't have the part available to fix it or we would've gladly stayed there, but he sent us in the right direction to obtain the part and find a shop to fix it that night. His kindness was so appreciated during a stressful time! He refused to charge us for his time as well, just for the power steering fluid we needed to top off.

Honest, super friendly, I always come to Tipple Motors. I trust them exclusively. Very reasonable prices, as well.

Tipple Motors is awesome. The owner Jerry is so kind and honest, and an honest mechanic, is like GOLD!! I'm stoked to have found them and won't be going anywhere else.

Always a treat to meet and greet these folkes. Down home, good wholesome and kind people. Some parts of town only allow cash only. Be aware you are on your own.

Driving our truck through rain and snow today and the wipers Stopped. Ugh We pulled in to a nearby gas station for help, and the owner Jerry popped the hood, and while chatting about his son in the USNavy in San Diego and about his ancestors in the Azores, Jerry found a nut that had slipped off, put it back in place and in just 35 minutes we headed off down the road. Great service, right?

This place is a joke. Had our car there for over two weeks and never got it diagnosed. But, they didn't skip a beat in charging us $55 to look at it for 15 minutes. Don't waste your time or your money with this place.
