Chef-owner Francesco Torre (Fish, Tra Vigne) overhauled the former Mosaic space to create an homage to the Tuscan farmhouse. Careful thought to detail abounds throughout the concrete and block-wood beamed interior. A cozy chef's counter provides front-row viewing of the intimate, active kitchen. Two spacious dining rooms and a delightful, tree-lit patio with fire pit offer additional seating. With emphasis on local, organic and sustainable, Torre's comfort food benefits from meticulously-chosen ingredients and sources, hand-butchering, -curing and -preserving. Start with coppa and bruschetta topped with cod mousse, marinated shrimp or chicken liver. Pastas are chef-approved al dente: corkscrew pasta with milk-fed veal ragoût or chestnut gnocchi with sweet red onions and cauliflower purée. Entrées include flavorful pork shoulder braised in herbs and peppers or fresh Alaskan cod served with delicately soft white-corn polenta. Be sure to order the crispy cauliflower with Grandma Fina's San Marzano-herbed aïoli. Sweet endings include pineapple guava panna cotta with pomegranate seeds and dark chocolate sauce and homemade pistachio ice cream on flaky brioche with rum-preserved cherries. Wines highlight Italian varietals from Sonoma and Tuscany.
