Goenka Vipassana is a cult. I deeply regret coming here, but now at least I can warn others not to get involved. I highly discourage you from going here. There are legitimate meditation retreats out there; this is NOT it.

Everyone should experience the 10-day retreat at least once. If you are skeptical do not set this aside. It’s far from being a cult or any kind of BS new age nonsense. It’s true Buddhism, by the book, from the original Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, not from any religious Buddhist sect. It is not a larger organization. Every Vipassana center operates independently from one another via volunteers who have personally benefitted from the practices, which are completely secular. The practices taught here are of benefit to every kind of person, and are actually extremely simple, mainly focusing on developing discipline of awareness, which has benefits so great to one’s life that you really just have to experience it to understand, even if you already think you understand, but don’t let this scare you away either. The center offers a setting to peacefully explore this practice with a level of depth that is not usually accessible in chaotic and distracting day to day life. Anyone and everyone can and should do a ten-day course.

Life changing experience. I’ve tried four Vipassana schools, and this one is the best. I’ve done three courses here already! It’s my second home now

I had such a wonderful experience at this center. Initially, I was a bit worried after reading some comments about unwell people being asked to leave, but the reality was very different. The staff here are incredibly compassionate. In fact, there was someone who seemed unwell and was coughing frequently. Rather than asking him to leave, they accommodated him by placing him in a corner so he could still participate in the program without risking others' well-being. If you have the opportunity to visit this place, don’t hesitate—you’ll have an amazing experience. May all beings be happy and in harmony :)

Did my 10 day Vipassana course here. Had a great experience thanks to the management and teachers. The property itself is beautiful on a hill surrounded by redwoods. They had shared accommodations but the beddings and bath were very comfortable.

Excellent Vipassana, amazing teachers, wonderful ambiance, classmate students willing to work hard. Men and women segregated during meditation, dining area and sleeping cabins. 10-day noble silence, not even non-verbal communication. And it is free, paid by previous students. This is a great gift.

I’ve submitted my application since last two years and it has never been approved . Always on waitlists and I got tired of it so I decided to submit it to Texas .. upon asking the kellysivlle center why they cancelled my application they mentioned because I submitted my application to Texas . I really wanted to do this program but I think the American Buddhist center is much more punishing than anywhere in the world .. I never thought this place would be so discriminative to people who want to just become better person
