it's a saturday afternoon at 3pm. i walk up & the lights are off & the door is locked. another vendor in the plaza let me know that the man who runs the shop frequently leaves early & unannounced. i tried calling the number posted & it just rang and rang. such an inconvenience to travel into laguna to have the one place i'm trying to get to be closed. i'm disappointed. to the owner (if you even read these), do not have posted hours if you cannot maintain them. you are inconveniencing multiple people by your inconsistency. probably going to drive the extra hour to another location rather than trying to come back. such a let down.

I have been going to Luke for many years for all of my Birkenstock needs. From new sandals to reconditioning old ones he does it all. I highly recommend his service.

Read before visiting store!!You have to make an appointment to see Luke. He arrives early and leaves early. But, it is well worth it!! His shop is the only place you can get expert advise and expert work/repairs. His character is different but, don't let that get in the way of the best service for Birkenstocks anywhere. I've been using him for 10 years and will continue to use him until he retires.

A good shoe but not so good for the professional kitchen. Also, guy on the phone is not so professional. Be careful!

After spending about 30 minutes being fitted for my long overdue, new Birkenstocks I am walking away feeling like a new person! Luke is a rare breed, taking his craft very seriously. I have always understood the importance of good shoes and walked away learning even more about this important lesson! I Just want to say how much I appreciate Luke and the work he offers out of his 49 year old shop in Laguna Beach

This isn’t a Birkenstock store, it’s some weird pretentious showroom that closes at 10AM (yes 10AM in the morning).Basically, you call to make an appointment weeks in advance so some old man can give you a lesson on podiatry and sell you a pair of Birkenstock’s custom shapes to your feet.If I wanted such a hoity toity experience I probably wouldn’t buy a pair of Birkenstock’s ?.

Luke is a treasure. I went this morning as I have been having some foot issues and proceeded to receive the most amazing fitting and education about the human foot! Without me telling him, he was able to describe to me much of what my challenges are and what is causing them. Luke also gave me some terrific insight into what shoes I should be looking for and volunteered to review all of my existing shoes with me by simply bringing them in. Luke is only open early in the mornings so please call first to ensure that he is there. Early morning in Laguna is fabulous as it is relatively quiet and the parking is wide open! Do yourself a favor and call Luke!

Who the heck are you? This was my greeting from Luke when I arrived during his early morning hours. He told me that his customers usually call before arriving to ensure he will be there. He proceeded to then give me the most amazing education on feet, shoes, ankles and in some ways life along with the most comprehensive fitting ever. Just through his examination and fitting and questions, he was describing to me what my 56 years of life had done to my feet without me telling him and what I should do from now on. He also gave me tremendous insight into what types of shoes and fit that I should look for and that he would be more than happy to review all of my shoes if I bring them down and show him. Luke is a treasure. Others have mentioned it as well. Call him and set up an appointment. He is only there early in the mornings. An early morning excuse to be in Laguna when there is ample parking is a great thing! Do yourself a favor.

Places like these are going extinct. I'm a big time Amazon prime shopper out of convenience but businesses like these remind me of how shopping is supposed to be: A person who is passionate about what he does, knowledge about the product he sells and caring for his customers. Luke is a quirky, older man who is capable of manufacturing the shoes he sells. He scans your feet and walk the moment you enter his small room stacked with Birkenstock's of any kind. And he doesn't hold back his opinion. His prices are about 10% above what you pay online but it feels so good walking out of that store knowing you did (and bought) the right thing.

Personalize service from Luke today! Called ahead to make an early morning appointment and was given kind recommendations to bring my existing daily use shoes to examine my foot pattern. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge about overall foot care. This experience was worth it for my first pair of original Birkenstock's. My intentions was to find a place to get great service with long lasting foot/shoe care advice vs finding a specific style.

This might be a "different " shoe buying experience then you might have ever had, but you will leave satisfied. I was well versed by reading reviews (and my mom came the month before), so I knew to call ahead. Luke really is there from around 4am to 12pm due to traffic as he drives from LA. CALL AHEAD. He gives the impression that he likes when people call ahead, so his day is planned. He only takes one customer at a time (though people have said they have gone in with their kids?), and I spent about an hour and a half there. I brought 4-5 pairs of my own shoes, per his request, so he could see my shoe wear/tear. He fit me for a pair, I walked around outside so he could see where my injuries displayed in my gait if any, and then we came back inside and chose the pair I was going to leave with. I didn't come in with expectations or a set style in mind. At the time of this review he had suede and dark leather, but none of the oiled kind. I left with a pair of dark Arizona's (he didn't have any of the three strap, but the two strap are apparently better for the health of your foot, which, if we are all being honest is probably why we are buying these shoes anyway and not to be "stylish"). If you have a set style in mind, call ahead to ask if he has it. Otherwise, you might be leaving with a different pair than you thought you needed/wanted, but is better for you. Price wise, you are paying for the service. Whatever is on the Birkenstock website, plan to pay more. You are paying for the sizing (to fit your foot, including punching new holes in the leather if needed), and knowledge he has.
