The owner is very nice. Many liquors, but not many groceries

I'm not saying anything that isn't obvious here: but this is a predatory establishment banking on the distraction of addicts. They overprice liquor like it's no one's business, expecting an addict wouldn't question it in the moment.I know these words will fall on mostly deaf ears, but if you care about putting your money into business that deserve it, this is NOT the one to do so.

This place gets so many bad reviews so I wanted to give my experiences. I've been there twice and the guy was very polite and quiet. The store is your typical liquor mart in a poor business area. It's never going to be a 4-5 star business because of this but none-the-less... it was a nice experience.

Best AND ONLY Liquor store around Broadway and 12th, NOONE else around. Great prices, customers are all very scary, doped up and drunk all the time. The workers are cool, just quiet.

Uh, I've been buying half and half from this joint for about a year now, so the folks behind the counter know me by name and are generally pretty friendly. However, today a gent who said his name was Souza (as in da namesake...? Or mere mockery?) was a straight up, certifiable j**** I get to the counter with my usual half-gallon o' half-and-halfersons and Big Sou' looks me up and down and says that the store doesn't accept food stamps. Confused, I asked what made him say that because I hadn't said anything--and have never said anything to imply--about producing food stamps as a form of payment. (Obvs, no tea and absolutely not a lick'a shade to anyone who does utilize such resources!!!) Sou' got hella frustrated with my question, all pretty dang quickly. He said that "you all usually use food stamps" and that he was just letting me know they weren't an acceptable form of payment at the liquor store. I asked what demographic "you all" constituted and tried to minimize the inherent eye roll I could feel coming on. Sou' wouldn't answer. His associate, who was stocking a nearby refrigerator, told Sou' to cool it and, echoing my sentiments, explained that his statement could be considered pretty offensive. Sou' wasn't about hearing it and said I could pay and leave, which I absolutely did. I'm glad to walk a little further for our breakroom provisions if it means avoiding this kind of treatment, and you might want to as well!

$25 for a bottle of Lamarca prosecco??? I'm pissed when I have to pay more than $15. I asked the man repeatedly to confirm the price and he acted like he didn't hear me. No prices on the bottles so ask before you buy unless you just don't care. There was also some kerfuffle when I arrived as a man felt he was overcharged. A nice gentleman in line covered the extra cost to avoid further conflict. Two stars because they have a decent selection of last minute grocery needs.

This place claims to be at a Western Union franchise. However when I went in that this morning with a western union money order from someone in Washington they refused to cash it. The clerk kept saying I needed the top step of the money order, which is the receipt kept by the person who sent it. I don't know if this clerk is just poorly trained or if it's a case of economic and racial discrimination. This franchise is in a part of downtown Oakland where there are a lot of economically disadvantaged people use it. They should not be in the business of representing Western Union if they're not willing to ethically responsibly and equally treat all of their customers in a fair manner. Instead as stated they seem to want to practice whatever discrimination they want and asked for things that are required just so they don't have to hand money out when they're supposed to. They got no problem snatching money for overpriced crap that people can't afford but have a little other options in this area to get. I would not recommend this place to anyone even on their worst day. Had to make it worse, I have cash Western Union money orders here in the pastAnd have never been asked for the top step receipt kept by the person who sent it. The only reason I'm giving one star is because there's no option for a -5.

If you don't mind stepping over some of the neighborhood traffic it's got a decent selection of liquor perfectly situated in the downtown area who wouldn't will soon to be a thriving bustling apartment and condo place

Prices were high, and half the six packs in the cooler were incomplete. Unmarked prices on the limited liquor selection does not bode well, either.
