Beautiful place to visit. I first learned about comparative religion here as a kid, and it blew my mind! I love the gardens, the library, and walking here from the Ojai Meadows Preserve.

Beautiful and relaxing place to visit. I first learned about comparative religion here as a kid, and it blew my mind! I love the gardens, the library, and walking here from the Ojai Meadows Preserve. Be ready to be quiet and contemplative when you're here.

This is a must visit gem of a place in Ojai if you are inclined towards meditation or theosophical society even to a small extent. The place is absolutely serene and has so much positive energy that just visiting the place will give you good vibes. The book store staff and the librarian are very knowledgeable and you can start a conversation on any topic and they will happily converse with you. The librarian who is actually an important person at the international theosophical society has such rich wisdom and knowledge that you feel so soothing when you talk to her. The amount of knowledge that she gained through her old age is equivalent to several religious books that you can read. The library is very pleasant and quiet place to read several books and inspiring magazines. It is a must visit and I will definitely pay another visit shortly.

What a spectacular view. Calm peaceful energetics. Everything is closed for covid though the grounds are open for walking, sitting, contemplating and meditating. The center sits on a hill in the Ojai Valley, which means the view of the mountains that ring the valley are amazing. Most views are unobstructed though there are mature trees on the grounds so it's possible to find a quiet shady spot out of the sun.

This review is based on my trip there in November 2011. Wonderful esoteric and spiritual bookshop! It sits within the compound and grounds of the Theosophical Research Society, surrounded by gardens and fountains. I went in expecting nothing by Theosophical related books from Charles Leadbeater, Helena Blavatsky and Alice Bailey. Boy, was I wrong. They had tons of books and titles represent all faiths and traditions, from hokey New Age books on gems and angels to serious tomes on Tibetan Buddhism and Sufiism and everything in between, including some hard-to-find and out of print titles. I was very impressed and will definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

I began visiting Krotona in the 1970s when I attended the public talks of J Krishnamurti in the Oak Grove, which is just down the hill behind Krotona. Always a sanctuary of spirit, Krotona is a beautiful community with residences, bookstore, library, and the Institute of Theosophy, where I studied with the late Joy Mills in the early 1980s. As an academic, university professor, I am sceptical and critical, but also deeply interested in the history of Theosophy and its appeal to realities that introverts are at home with; extraverts may find Theosophy weird, unscientific, and a little cultish. I am an introvert and a student of Jungian psychology. My imagination, intuition, and such intelligence as I have find harmony and peace at Krotona. I love Krotona as a wonderful, mysterious, somewhat mystical home for meditation, philosophical and psychological study, and intellectually challenging. Every visit has been inspirational, and every time I have been there I have tried to imagine what it must be like to live there. Peaceful, beautiful, friendly, welcoming, the library and bookstore are open for visitors, especially to those who seek to understand life, nature, the universe, and the 'gods'.
