Ordered pickup from China house after exhausting all other opportunities for lunch. We got their orange chicken and Kung Pao chicken. The orange chicken was overly sweet and very breaddy. The kung pao chicken was mostly onions by volume. the sauce was a little bland and watery. The service looked ok but the place was empty and the state of the restaraunt didn't inspire much confidence that the food was fresh. The bar was messy and the supplies were strewn about.

Best Chinese food I've ever had. Get the Shrimp fried rice! Large portions at a good price. The service was attentive and friendly. Very authentic atmosphere. Perfect place to eat after the Aquarium!

Nice place clean and in good location. We ordered chicken noodels and kung pou chicken. Dishes were tasty and price was fair.

I received excellent customer service on a Sunday evening around closing time. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. The people were friendly. The service was fast. Best of all, the food tasted really good.

I feel bad giving them 1 star because I didn't get a chance to try their food. However, because they have horrible service I have to give them 1 star. We went there after visiting the aquarium. They immediately gave us a table and menus, but then we waited and waited and waited and no one came to offer drinks or take our order. The owner and employees were seating at a table eating. We said we were ready and they completely ignored us. We did what we had to do, we left. I understand workers have to take lunch but it is not ok to keep your customers waiting specially when there's kids. After reading other reviewed I am glad we ended up leaving.

We normally order out from this restaurant. Its quite obvious, they use great ingredients and compared to other local restaurants, their food is tastier.

Surprised to read the other negative ratings—no issues during our experience. Efficient and friendly staff, and the pot stickers, vegetable chow mein and egg drop soup was tasty.

This restaurant is a warm, homey relaxed place to go in a comfortable wherehouse building across from Hopkins Marine. Best to know how to order... My taste favorites are the Fish with Sour Veggie Soup, Salt & Pepper Fried Squid Appetitzer, Egg Plant, Roasted Duck with Veggie, and Tofu Skin Salad. Spicy Sour Shredded Potatoe, and Roast Duck! By the way don't forget the Fried Sesame Balls for an evening snack!

We walked in and were seated right away but the building looked kinda old and unclean. We waited about 10 minutes and we were waiting for the OWNER who was our server I guess, to serve us, but here's the thing, she was eating lunch with her coworkers, we left after our LONG wait time. Will NEVER be coming back here again.

I wish I could give this place 0 because it deserves it. Walked in with my family and sat there for over 10 minutes and no one, and I mean no one even came to take our order or ask the kids for water or anything. The funny thing is that there was no one there except for us. STAY AWAY! We walked out.

We ordered take-out and this place is right down the street from my parents place. Food was ready within 10 minutes and tasted super fresh. They even gave us a free side of rice with the order. Will be ordering from here again.

As a Chinese, first of all I have to say the food is not good. But the fact that really pissed me off is the hidden price. We ordered 4 dishes and it charged for 63 dollars, which is far more expensive than expected. The prices for each dish are not listed on the copy. When my mom came to the owner (a middle aged women) and asked why the price came out to be so ridiculous. The owner said that the tax and tips are already included in this price. However, they never mentioned that this price already included tips, and still let us pay the tips. If you have to go to this restaurant, be really careful when you pay! Don’t add any more tips cuz it was already included!!

This place has great service and food. They offer a military discount too. We showed up for a really late dinner one night and I’m pretty sure they were closed and heading out (the door was actually locked), but the lady who owns it/runs it came over and let us in. They turned everything back on and took our order. I’ve never had that happen before. The only downfall for this place is location. I do not think a lot of people know they are located way down that road. I would have never known about it but my husband found out about it through work friends.

Worst chicken Kang Pao. It was served and all I was eating was chicken skin. I asked for something else and the guy argued with me about it being only chicken skin. Had the Mongolian beef but it was just as bad. Will not be coming back ever.

How’s the food? Don’t know. How’s the price? Dont know. I stood in the entryway for almost a full minute before the only employee visible asked if he could help me. He finally held up one finger indicating was I a party of one. I held up one finger in return didn’t deed I was. He then pointed to a table and sad set there. As I walked across the room passed him I took a look at his phone only to see that he was very engaged in playing games. As I pause next to the table he looked up from playing his game and said you sit. At which point I said no I think you’re too busy. And left .

I felt like the food was more Thai than Chinese. The chicken and broccoli was covered in garlic and the General Tao Chicken was bland and the sauce didn't taste like it should. The price was VERY expensive for the quality, so we won't be back.

Again, we were very happy with the service and food at China House. Very friendly staff and what we order is definitely excellent. Good for Vegans or flesh eaters. I recommend sauteed sprouts and sauteed bok choy with garlic; these two dishes are not on the menu but you can order it and as long as they have sprouts and bok choy they will make it for you. Another favorite of ours is spicy fish or fish in black bean sauce, excellent.

I Love Chinese food. Therefore I rarely leave a Chinese restaurant disappointed. The food tasted old or reheated. And it had a bad oil flavor. We got the lunch special Szechuan chicken with chow mein. Unfortunately I will not be returning.

This is officially my go-to Chinese restaurant. The service is always exemplary and fast, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is welcoming. I highly recommend China House.

Just got take out and everything besides the soup was half filled to go containers, the soup though was two large containers, wasn't bad but wasn't filling with such small portion sizes.

Authenticity to the ultimate, down to the perceived rudeness of the staff that is not rude at all. More of give the customer a wide birth to make their decisions and provide fast attention when called upon. Totally used to this but it seems several reviewers here haven't been out of their town let alone the U.S. The food was first rate, ample portions, filling for me, and I'm a bit bigger than most. The Kung Pao was just how my Aunt makes it (FANTASTIC). The atmosphere is that of a true China Povincial Dining Facility. Take in the realism, not pretentious PF Chang or a microwaved Swansons Dinners. If you can't stand authenticity then perhaps you should stick with McDonalds or perhaps a pot pie.

Very tasty beef. Friendly patron tho a tiny bit impatient as my child was slow to decide what to eat.

This place is a hidden gem! We sat out on the lovely patio with our kids and enjoyed the delicious food, wine and wonderful service. We will absolutely be coming back on our next visit to Carmel.

Came here after a great day at the Monterey Aquarium and the food was awesome. It was authentic and really suit my chinese palette. If you're looking for real chinese food, gotta try this place. I would definitely try the 'Stir fry cabbage with garlic'! It's not on the menu, but its a classic vegetable dish and they did amaaaaaazingly~ Tip: the food can be a little greasy for some (that comes with some styles of Chinese food), so I would just ask for less oil if you're not used that. Lastly, just wanted to point out there are some cultural differences in food and service style. Chinese restaurants are not like American restaurants and how they serve can really come off as curt. E.g. I wouldn't wait to be seated, just give them a wave and grab a seat yourself. Otherwise, you will end up waiting awhile. Take a chill pill everyone :) Definitely room for improvement (decor and service), but the food is worth it (5 star worthy). Enjoy the food everyone!

I could see this place from where I was working! Awesome! I am going to get that for lunch! Well then I look up the reviews. Hmm. I had a lunch with me but decided to just give it a shot. Called and asked if for lunch I could get chow main instead of white rice and they said sure for a small extra charge so I was in. Got honey walnut prawns. It was ready quick and I took it to the beach to eat. They actually gave me a bunch of walnuts like I like and the breading was nice and crispy. I was happy I decided to go get it!

The waitress there was really rude. She would just ignore us for ordering drinks. And she went to obviously her old clients and cut in front of us. We were almost leaving without order anything because if her. We were there at least 30 minutes and she not served even water. We even tried to stop her since we were right sitting by the kitchen when she passed my numerous time.
