one of the worst banks I have banked with. total apathy for the customer situation. closing an account with them is bad. It was a nightmare banking with HSBC.

I have banked with at least 10 different banking institutions over 30 years and this one is absolutely the worst. Prospective account openers at HSBC please read and follow advice in all recent reviews of HSBC. I got a promotion in the mail for an account bonus which was supposed to be deposited every month if I did direct deposit. After waiting for 6 months and not seeing any bonus deposited, I called their phone lines 2 times over 4 months, each time the support rep promised to return my phone call with results after a week, but I never got any response. So, I stepped into this Palo Alto branch to get this Pakistani manager to help me recover the lost bonus. He instead closed the account the same day and then when I stepped into this branch he defends his actions. Guess what, I never got that promised bonus. They hire the worst third-world country clowns who don't follow laws because they have not been whipped by Trump yet.As another HSBC yelp reviewer said for closed Belmont branch, READ or YOU WILL REGRET: Advice for potential customers: "Avoid HSBC (HorseSh!t Bank of China) at all costs!! Not only do they lie about their promotions, take MONTHS longer than their ads promise to pay sign-on bonuses, seemingly hire high school drop-outs for their national call centers and have no sense of urgency or responsibility to resolve customer complaints in a time." I have realized this Chinese bank is running a scam operation where they send out bonus promo offers FULLY KNOWING THEY WILL NOT PAY OUT ON THOSE, because their a** has not been sued into the South China Sea yet. Anyone who wants to join me in a class action lawsuit, email me. Together we will run HSBC into the ground. We will also complain of deceptive advertising to the FTC and recover our moneyFile your complaint at this link with US dept for enforcing HSBC to abandon its Chinese heritage cheat and deceive culture more effect, join me in a class action lawsuitEvery year HSBC gets fined but still operates like those lawless countries of China and Pakistan where their staffers are from, e.g read

These poor people have zero staff right now. I applaud their efforts. Let's see how well all these folks complaining do under the same circumstances. 5 stars!!!!

Two stars for the human customer service I have received here - the people are helpful and professional. But what the hell with the ATM? A few weeks ago I needed to deposit a bunch of cash. The ATM had that option grayed out. Very frustrating -- and I had to walk home carrying the cash that I had hoped, very reasonably, to safely deposit in the ATM. Today, I wanted to deposit a check in the ATM, which I have done there 100 times. Now the ATM accepts cash as a deposit - but not checks!! Consistency is critical in customer service, HSBC. Who has ever heard of an ATM that doesn't accept check deposits? The icing on the cake is that your app doesn't work anymore, so I can't deposit the damn check on my phone with your most recent, non-functional update. After I post this review I'm going on social media to crowdsource recs for a new bank. It's 2020, and I expect my bank to earn my business.

Friendly staff - great help setting up our account. They helped us setup international accounts as well before we moved out. Everyone there is friendly and here to help.

I went to close my account on my last visit only to find out today that my account is not closed, getting a notice from the collections department collecting overdraft fee. Yes, maintenance fee has been charged for a closed account with nothing to maintain. Either the incompetent teller don't even know how to close an account or I've been retaliated for closing an account, trying to make it hard to close business. Be careful if you plan on banking here... lots of problems.

Why are they open? Completely unable to provide the most basic of services to their premiere customers. Employees looked like zombies walking around cluelessly. Who oversees this operation??

Maybe because I don't pay too much attention to fees, but I have been happy with this branch for 15 years now. People are nice and helpful.

The best bank in the world? Maybe. But it is the worst in bay area. Ha!

Opened an Advance checking account through a promotion and only later found out about restrictions and hidden fees that were not disclosed up front. Can't tell if staff is deceitful or incompetent, but in any case HSBC is a bank to avoid.

Extremely negative experience (-5 stars). First they have promised to open account remotely and sad I don't need SSN number. As result it wasn't true and I had to get my SSN and visit the branch in Palo Alto. Second the didn't manage to send me my debit card in 3 weeks, something went wrong with 2 card. I ordered and expedite card delivery but I still didn't get it Third problem is that they have updated my account to Premier and here is where the real problem happened. (Super Angry). They closed my account and opened a new one, without notifying my. I made payments to my old account, when I finally got to log in into internet bank, I was shocked to see that there is no money. And as I figured out the account number changed. Super Angry! Apparently the account just was closed and all my transactions were return to sender
