Upon visiting the San Mateo County History Museum, I was thoroughly impressed with the extensive collection of displays and exhibits. The organization of the displays by subject matter made it easy to navigate through the museum and learn about the history of the area. The exhibits covered a wide range of topics, including ships, development, entrepreneurs, and more, providing a wealth of information to take in. I particularly enjoyed exploring the model ship section, where each ship had taken a year or two of dedicated time to make. The attention to detail in these models was truly impressive and really showcased the skill and craftsmanship of the creators. My touring experience at the San Mateo County History Museum was truly exceptional.

Nice small historical museum that depicts the history of Redwood City. Well laid out and very informative with hands on and wall exhibits all located in the old county court house rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake. No parking on site. Metered street parking.

When the building is closed, you can enjoy a hot drink from any nearby restaurant and have an outdoor seat to enjoy the Christmas settings. ❄️☃️⛄️???

You can visit this museum for free on the first Friday of the beginning of each month!Even though it's a small place, you'll enjoy your time there. From the outside, the building reminded me of the architecture of the palaces of St. Petersburg - which is exquisitely beautiful! Inside the museum, I found many interesting displays, some of which I could touch and dive into a certain period of history. My favorite part was the courtroom, where you could feel yourself in different roles (witness, plaintiff, or judge). I also appreciated the gramophone that played old song, immersing you in the atmosphere of a black and white movie. Overall, it's a good place to spend a day because the museum is on a busy street, so after visiting, you can just take a walk or even grab a bite to eat somewhere.P.S. I fell in love with their ceilings!

More extensive inside than expected. A perfectly pleasant way to spend a fee hours in a beautiful example of neo-classical architecture. The vaulted stained glass domes alone are worthy of a visit! Also, a Hollywood secret: the courtroom is where they filmed parts of Robin William’s Mrs. Doubtfire!

In a place crowded with IT industrial stories, people often neglected the local history and local habitats before microprocessor, this museum has two focuses: 1) the development of transportation between SF and San Jose, along with its natural resources usage. 2) immigration, compared with native Americans, the Spanish speaking people was the first immigrants; later the English speaking people. The actual exhibition somehow highlights the immigration after the English speaking immigrants.

This is a cool museum, filled with memorable exhibits including a sampling of Western saddle styles used in the past, the Fresnel lens from Point Montara Lighthouse, and a display of past & present California license plates. It is a fine depiction of the people and activities from this county's past. There is much to see in this beautiful two-story building, and I highly recommend it for anyone who has not been here!

Long ago I was there when it first opened as a museum; not as much was on display as there is now. Really some beautiful items on display now. The reason I gave the pics a 3 is the lack of info about what is being displayed in the pics. I wanted to know more about the items that were beautifully displayed in the pics. Some u could zoom in on the signs next to item on display.

An amazing place for a county museum. The rotunda itself is worth the price of admission. The displays are organized by subject matter: ships, development, entrepreneurs, etc. A lot to look at, a lot to take in.The best recommendation I can think of is that my 5 year old grand daughter loves it. She's been there numerous times and took me on the tour.
