Let me start by saying I've worked at a rental car agency so I get the upsell mentality. Adam was my agent and he was awful, intimidating, and very aggressive. I had a reservation that I was early for, and he told me that the only car he had available was an upgrade to an SUV because my car was unavailable. I understood that I was early and understood that may have changed things, so I said that I would be ok with a downgrade for the price I agreed to pay. He said there was only an SUV available. If I didn't want the SUV, I would have to wait 5 hours for my reservation. I made another reservation online, and suddenly a smaller car was available, and I had already asked for the downgrade. Then I said I had insurance on my card and additional rent-a-car insurance through my travel insurance, asked to see the paperwork and he told me that those didn't work, and even though I was fully covered and showed the paperwork. He said that the deposit would be 2500USD if I didn't take any company insurances. Everything he listed that my insurance didn't cover, was listed in my policy (loss of use, reimbursement, etc)Then the deposits would go down from there depending on the level of coverage I took, from 500 to 70. Adam had a very take-it-or-leave-it demeanor and it was not very welcoming. The entire process took me almost 2 hours, no one was in line, which impeded my family time as they were waiting on me for breakfast. When I got to the car it was dusty and not recently wiped down, surprising since the car wasn't been available moments prior. When I wiped the car down with Clorox wipes, it was very dirty and led me to believe that it was not sanitized. This is the second time that I have rented from you. The first time I had an amazing experience, and this time confirmed that I should stay away as I was sure to be swindled. This was an awful start to my trip. When I returned there was a gash in my tire. Luckily for me, I had a video showing that it was there at the time of rental. 1- that should have been noted before and I should not have been provided that car as that is a major safety concern. 2- they still tried to charge me for the tire, after taking your full coverage. I showed the video with the gash in the tire and I still have not received my deposit back. I do plan to make a report to the tourism board as this service was unacceptable.

I was very pleased with how the rental process went. I had forgotten they were no longer at the Lindbergh field address so was quite a jaunt to the Mexican boarder , but my fault. They were very nice to deal with and thought the car was in perfect condition.

Mex Rent a Car is a scam. There a bunch of hidden fees they do not tell you about. They will not even have a car even if you make a reservation. DO NOT USE THIS CAR RENTAL COMPANY.

On June 22, 2022, I rented a car through rentalcar.com and the Car hire company or supplier was Mex with the Address of 1002 West Juniper Street, San Diego Ca 92101. I was supposed to pick up the car @10:00am and I was there right on time. The gentlemen working there told us he is not able to give us the car and he is going to cancel our reservation, and reimbursing our money, also will put a note for the rental car that the cancelation is from their side. It was very inconvenient for us due to not get any car that day on top of that rentalcar.com is not refunding our money. That's so unfair.

Stay away, stay far away. This company scams customers by advertising through Priceline requiring full non-refundable payment. After paying Priceline, and you are in the door, they will take a deposit only to not refund the entire deposit claiming you must take up the rental cost with Priceline. Big Scam! I ended up having to cancel my credit card and get the bank involved eventually getting my money back. What a hassle. While in their office two other customers experienced similar experience. Beware!!!!

I'd give a zero if I could. Rented through T-Mobile Travel ( never again) and I was told I was renting a car from Ace. I rented the car before I got my plane flights as everyone was telling me that there is a car rental shortage. When I got my flight times (landing at 3:45) I kept trying to call to tell them when my flight landed as I had just chosen the default time of 12:00. Never got a hold of anyone. It said they closed at 6pm. Then I found out the name was changed to Mex. Scary. Who the hell are they? They are a SCAM company. They told me they close at 4pm. At an airport. Really? Who the heck closes at 4pm? They said I could come back the next day and get it. Would not refund my money. $700+.

After prepaying online via Priceline, I had to take a taxi to this off site airport car rental company, after waiting for an airport shuttle that never arrived. I attempted to call the company from the airport to inquire about the shuttle, only to get an automated response and put on hold. The automated response indicated if I pressed “1” and hung up, I would get a call back, which never happened. The taxi dropped me off at Mex, at which time I encountered a closed and padlocked gate (see photo). This was 4:00 pm on a Saturday when they claim they are open. As I was standing there trying to figure out what to do, a man showed up in his rental car with his family. They were headed to the airport to catch a flight and were trying to return their car, and they couldn’t figure out how to get inside the property either. He and his wife both attempted unsuccessfully to contact the company via phone numerous times while I was there, and as I left had finally connected with a third party not even directly associated with Mex! At that point, even though I had prepaid, I decided I did not want my own gamble when attempting to return a car tomorrow, so I had to pay for a Lyft back to the airport to rent another car through a different company. I am dismayed that Priceline would contract through a company like this. Their overall Google reviews are terrible and indicate I’m clearly not alone in my negative experience with Mex. I will be contacting Priceline to get a refund. STAY AWAY!!!!

If I can give zero, I would. Absolutely the worst experience, i waited 30 minutes for the shuttle that never came, managed to get to their rental office and was told that my booking was canceled and they are closing office in 5 minutes. And that was 4pm. The woman Kassandra behind the counter is rude and basically kicked us out. When I said according to their voice recording that the office closes at 9pm, she said it's a mistake. When I asked who canceled the booking, she said she doesn't know who. I guess she's going home. I had to leave and go next door to a legit shop to rent another car. I can't think of anything more ridiculous than this experience.

BEWARE!! Total scam. When i got there, they said they needed my proof of insurance or i had to pay an extra $30 a day for insurance with a $2500 deductible. I showed them the official document of my entire insurance policy that stated that it covers any vehicle I drive. That it actually even waves my $500 deductible on a vehicle I don't own, if the accident is less than 50% my fault. After showing them the 17 page document, then they said they need to hear it from my insurance company. It was 9pm Sunday evening. They knew no one would be there on a Sunday at 9pm. I got upset, but finally said I'll take. I had no choice. I happened to be with my wife and my 85 year old mother. They then refused to rent me the car and we ended up having to take an uber to our hotel.

Total 3rd rate business. avoid them like the plague. They have a central call center that has no clue what's happening at the local shop. There's no communication. You take a shuttle from the airport to the rental car location. Then you have to take another shuttle to this "offsite" location. You're told to expect a light blue shuttle that says Mex rent a car on the side. But the local shop sends out a navy blue minivan that looks like someone's personal vehicle. No information the vehicle about who they're with. Driver doesn't get out to ask. Took amateur show. Avoid like the plague.

Absolute worst. Waited around for a shuttle after taking a shuttle. Shuttle never came. Customer service was RUDE. had to take Uber to the location. The customer service rep refused to service us a car because we were upset nobody came to pick us up. Now renting from budget. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!!

Completely disappointed with my experience today. Had to pay an Uber from the airport because the shuttle never came to pick me up after sitting in the phone for 15mins with their customer service which is required to get the shuttle to take you to their office. When I arrived the shuttle was sitting in front of the office. I expressed my frustration with front desk girl who could care less about her job or the customers. I advised that the shuttle should run at least every 10-15mins to pick up their customers and she canceled my reservation lol. Don't waste your time there's plenty of rental car companies that actually care about staying in business.

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!! DO NOT. I rented a car from them and declined the insurance i bought through priceline and they tried to double the price at the counter. They steal your money and up the prices when you get there.

we rented a car on Monday and dropped it off Thursday. When we picked up the car I clearly told the guy a the counter several times that I did not want collision. I told him I called my insurance and credit card and they told me to decline it. But I was still charged for collision. They said to contact the manager but he never got back to me. They do it on purpose. I have rented from many reputable American companies and never had such a problem. Not to make this about Nationality but as a Mexican company, they are horrible.
