I had an unacceptable experience with Chantal. I found the $100+haircut and experience not in keeping with what is advertised. She desperately was lacking in professionalism, human decency and skill set: my hair is still visibly uneven and she burned my neck with the flat iron and didn’t apologize or attempt to cool it. She really went for some knowingly tone-deaf, low key ableist and out of pocket comments regarding my medical disability and because I was wearing a mask to protect my health. I chose this Salon initially because it was small and she was supposed to be “experienced” and advertised the services I was looking for. So after taking all that uncomfortable experience in, I decided to cancel my second appointment with her. This cancellation caused THREE DAYS of erratic texts from her while I was on my first well deserved, previously restful vacation, I haven’t had in over two years. My rest and first enjoyable experience in years was ruined because she couldn’t take the time to reread her own texts, look at the scheduling system to solve her own problem of who was canceling the appointment and the appropriate date and time. My cancellation unveiled her inability to be professional, reinforced her true character, how she treats people and what she thinks about her clients. She was unable to take accountability, had an attitude, and when called out about her excessive texting and error, then attempted to make digs at me and her former fellow colleague by then referring me to them by saying “we are not a fit.” She had previously shared a dig about them during my appointment and then said she doesn’t do highlights if I wanted them and only does Balayages and not what is listed on her profile. It was like she was trying to dictate what I was wanting to do with my hair or not do with it. She then went on about this former colleague and how their new Salon needed business and how they were low key beneath her etc. It made me so uncomfortable. I am unwilling to support Chantal or her business due to her tone-deaf views, ableist views and how she treats her clients and seemingly people in general. This experience was truly disappointing and so very low vibe!
Update Response to Salon Owner: Your response was good until you mentioned, referring me. Why on Earth would you add to the dig of referring me elsewhere to a “lesser quality” and supposedly “more affordable” Salon? Do better! You could have reached out and we could have discussed my experience. You should be more concerned with the low caliber of a stylist you have renting space in your Salon and their unprofessional and ableist behaviors that are giving you a poor review! If she had such a problem with my Mask and it Protecting my Health, she should have canceled my appointment instead of exposing me to her unprofessionalism, low skill set, lack of common decency and ABLEISM.
Stylist: I cannot and will not recommend Chantal.

Megan is amazing! Finding a hair salon that understands blonde hair can be a challenge. She’s helped me get through previously damaged hair while keeping the look I love. She prioritizes your hairs health and the color you’re striving for. The vibes in the chair are on point with all the snacks and drinks a girl could need. I wouldn’t go anywhere else

Megan is so amazing at what she does. With starting your experience before even showing up to the appointment. She gives you an opportunity to send her your inspo photo's and even let her know what kind of "vibe" you want your appointment to have! Also made me the best Coffee with cold oatmilk foam. She made me feel so warm and my hair never looks better.

Kristina always takes such good care of my hair, very insightful and answers all my questions and advises me before big color changes. I prefer a choppy blunt cut and Kristina cuts my hair absolutely perfectly.

Go see Megan at Gypsy & Oak! From the moment I walked into the salon, I felt the relaxed, casual vibe that makes Gypsy & Oak so special. Megan is incredibly friendly and immediately put me at ease.
She is highly knowledgeable and took the time to really understand what I wanted. During my appointment, I was a bit unsure about what I wanted to do, but Megan was patient and asked all the right questions to clarify exactly what I was looking for. And she nailed it!
The result was a hairstyle that exceeded my expectations. Megan's expertise and attention to detail are truly impressive. Whether you're looking for a subtle change or a dramatic new look (she does beautiful extensions), you can trust that Megan will listen carefully and deliver beautiful results.
Gypsy & Oak has become my go-to salon. If you're looking for a skilled stylist who genuinely cares about making you look and feel your best, Megan is the one to see!

Kristina did such a great job capturing what I wanted for my hair the 1st appt and recently at our 2nd for my touch up. The whole process was easy step by step to help me prepare for her and know what to expect. The salon is cute and I love the hospitality as well. Super happy with everything and I love my hair now. Thank you so much Kristina! ? -Tiffany F.

A beautiful, peaceful salon with a great team. Kristina has been highlighting and cutting my hair for over two years now. She's a great communicator; I show her inspiration pictures and she breaks down what's different about them and guides a plan for how to achieve the looks with my hair. I always leave happy with the results.

Meghan is so professional. It’s so hard to find someone these days who truly prioritizes you and your experience. I couldn’t recommend this place more.

I use to live in Monterey and always had a stylist out there. Moving to Los Angeles I had a really hard time finding one and trusting someone with my hair. During Covid I had some pretty bad experiences with my hair and was always so nervous getting it done.I was doing tons of research on salons everywhere in Los Angeles and I felt like none of them stood out to me. Fast forward, I was headed up to San Luis to see some family. I was so desperate to find someone to do my hair. I came across this salon on Instagram. I fell in love by the pictures, the reviews, the stylist, and so many others. I knew I was only gonna be there for a short time. I was hoping to find someone to do my hair for the short time while I was gonna be in San Luis. Since I was gonna be there for a weekend. I found Chantel on the website. She was so helpful and so understanding she fit my right in on a Monday. I was her last client of the day.Anyway… fast forward Chantel did my hair and she was just absolute a doll. I love her character, her personality, everything about her was just so amazing. We clicked right away of course. Both her and I talked very carefully about what I wanted for my hair. I told her I was super flexible. After the appointment she gave me everything I needed. I was and still am so obsessed with my hair. She did such a beautiful hand painted balayage she brightened me up. My hair super so muddy, dull, it honestly just had old blue shampoo in it.Chantel did everything I wanted and gave me what I asked for. If you ever need anyone to do your hair Chantel is just so beyond great. I’m definitely coming back for sure. I will be traveling 3 hours just to see her lol.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Gypsy & Oak Salon. The service was subpar and the advertising on the website was misleading. I went in for a hair coloring treatment that was quoted to cost $340. However, after spending that amount, plus a tip, I was informed that I would need to come back and pay the same hefty price for another treatment to get my coloring finished. Talk about a bait-and-switch!Not only did I feel taken advantage of, but the quality of the service was also lacking. The hairstylist seemed rushed and disinterested in providing a satisfactory experience. The false advertising was the cherry on top of this disappointing experience. I felt deceived and misled, and it left a sour taste in my mouth.Overall, my experience at Gypsy & Oak Salon was deeply disappointing. The service was lackluster, the false advertising was misleading, and the additional cost for incomplete coloring was unacceptable. I would not recommend this salon to anyone seeking a reliable and honest hair care experience. Save your time and money and look elsewhere for a salon that values its customers and provides quality service.Services: Hairstyling
