I’ve never had a worse and more uncomfortable customer service experience in my life. I was shocked. I think the owner struggles with some sort of mental health issue because there’s no other explanation. This is an industry where I felt nothing but love and warm and acceptance, and I felt nothing but the opposite when I interacted with this man. I left feeling sad and confused. I was so excited to go in the shop and chat. I had some things to get repaired and was trying to explain exactly what I needed and he very rudely cut me off and acted like I didn’t know what I was talking about out…I just got back from a four month long road trip through the Southwest and needed to re-up and repair. Really sad about this experience. Again, I walked in there with an open heart and mind and was all ears. I was absolutely treated like garbage.

This is such an amazing outdoor shop. Their selection of equipment is fine tuned to just what you may need on a backpacking or camping trip. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Came in with a broken sleeping bag zipper and left with it good as new! When I’m in need of a new sleeping bag, or any gear for that matter, Down Works will be my first stop. Thanks Nick!!

This is a great find for outdoor types in Santa Cruz. The proprieters are friendly and knowledgable. The Down works offers many of the items you'll need to be comfortable, safe & feed while you're outdoors at at the beach or mountains.2 thumbs up!

Fantastic down pillows. Bought a set of 5 pillows several years ago and they still feel great. Clean natural down (organic?) without allergies. Just bought 5 more and the quality is top notch. Can't wait to try a comforter. Glad to have a local pillow maker.

I was 3K into a 10K mile trip, having some trouble with staying warm while packing light, owner extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The rest of the trip I was perfectly comfortable, even into December!

Wow, Nick was so informative! I find myself often reminiscing they Santa Cruz used to be and this wonderful place is it. Nick took the time to show me 4 different example packs that would fit my needs. Grateful.

This is the place. Don't let the small size fool you they have the goods. I saw the sign and took a chance. Thrilled I did. I bought two beautiful down pillows yesterday and told a friend about them. She knows how particular I am and trusts my high end snobbery. She said go back and get me some before you come back home. Ok, 7 more pillows later I got everything we needed. They make them on site and I was looking to replace my favorite $500 pillow I bought 16 years ago. I bought their last extra soft yesterday and when i went back the sweet owner was covered in down and said he made a few more extra soft so I bought some more. Their equivalent to my $500 was $100. I left thrilled. I will assess my down comforter and return when I know what more I need from them. Also, they will fix and fill any of their products for just the price of the down, they don't charge for labor. That's pride in their superior product. This is a gem. I wont go anywhere else. PS finding high quality down products are harder and more expensive than you would think for poor quality. Thank you again. I will be back and send everyone there.

This place is amazing! The owner knows what he is talking about and has almost everything REI has. I got an osprey pack that was fitted by the owner, and osprey started in that building! So cool! Highly recomend for every stage of backpacking/camping
