If you are wanting a real, professional learning environment... avoid this adorable little art space. The "deal" will leave you short. I paid for 8 ceramics classes.. only got 7... the 8th was a "pick up project" day? WHAA???!!! It's a far drive for a brick of clay and 2 hours. I wasn't told the pottery wheel wouldn't be included, which is what I thought I was getting. Ceramics class is really fired clay you mold. Is that worth the money? Nope. There was hardly instruction, just a sweet young adult sorta babysitting. Very disappointed and they had a way to make it right.. they just choose not to.

Save your money. Pros: It's an adorable space, with incredible prices and after school night classes.CONS: They are terribly unorganized, the teacher didn't show up the first class... They don't tell you up front that the ceramics class would NOT include the wheel.. just clay they can mold. (ugh. I could do that at home!)I paid for 8 classes and only got 7. They will make your last class a "pick up projects" class.. which is hardly a class. Kiely who is the manager is condescending and no at all interested in doing the right thing. I am not sure how they run the other classes.. but if your wanting a real, professional organized class.... the "deal" isn't worth it. AVOID AVOID AVOID

I love McGroarty! I've taken many fun and superbly creative classes here! Right now I'm taking ceramics and loving it! The teachers are inspirational and the whole ceramic community is warm and welcoming! While the center was forced to close during the Covid pandemic, it is now reopening! Classes are starting again and there was a super fun Burgers, Beer and Band night tonight, October 15, 2022!

I'm speaking from experiences I had when I was around 12-14 years old (that was now almost 15 years ago). Despite that, I loved my time at McGroarty Arts Center! I took piano lessons, painting classes, drawing classes, and to this day, I have fond memories of those times. I miss it! And I hope it is still having the positive impact today. Thanks for giving such wonderful childhood memories.

The McGroarty Arts Center is a haven for poets and artists in Los Angeles. What a wonderful poet to celebrate, and to be at his house gives writers a moment to walk in history. The furniture and art are spectacular. This is a beautiful venue for events as well.
