Concerns Regarding Pricing Practices!!As a longstanding member of our community, I am writing to express my disappointment with New Canaan Thrift Shop.Having donated to support its mission for years, it was disheartening to discover that some items I contributed were marked at exorbitant prices, far beyond what seemed reasonable for a thrift store.Upon raising this concern, I encountered resistance from the manager, a woman of German or Austrian descent.Despite my intention to address the issue respectfully, her response was confrontational and dismissive.Additionally, I learned that items I donated months ago remain unsold, despite being priced over $175, well above market value.I believe in the importance of transparency and fairness in community initiatives like New CanaanThrift Shop.My hope is that by addressing these concerns, we can ensure it remains a supportive resource for those in need.Sincerely,Jane

My favorite thrift store for really special items, you never know what you'll find here but it's always worth a visit. Staff are super friendly as well, I always feel welcome.

Extremely tidy and well organized. The staff was super friendly when we went on Saturday with high quality items at great prices. We found amazing glasses, a hand painted mirror, and a vintage cake stand. I will come again!

Beautiful things and very friendly staff. Lots of positive vibes. The Eastern European lady was very nice. I had lots of questions and she answered them all patiently. I'm surprised people are writing nasty things about her....sounds like people are accusing her because of her accent, which is unacceptable and discriminatory. Please keep up the good work.

I must say I am shocked to read the comments folks have posted about the Eastern European woman who works there! I was in there recently, and the Eastern European woman was EXTREMELY helpful to me! She was friendly and very experienced! Yes, she has a European accent - is that why some of you feel she was not being friendly? This sounds like discrimination to me! Be careful before you criticize - the U.S. is a melting pot with people living and working here from all over the world! Understand someone's ways of speaking and accents before criticizing!

I stopped in on my first trip to CT after exploring New Canaan and was pleased to learn that this shop donates proceeds to charity and is cared for by loving volunteers. Prices were reasonable and the German woman running the shop I spoke with was kind and helpful. The shop is small but had an interesting selection; I’d like to stop by again on my next trip to see what new trinkets I may find.

I’m in college and I’ve been coming to the New Canaan Thrift Shop since I was a kid. The old manager was very nice and the prices used to be normal thrift store prices- they even had sales were you could buy a bag for $20 and stuff as much clothes in it as you could fit! When they changed managers- the prices skyrocketed- I find mediocre tops to be $6+ a pop whereas at most thrift stores I can get those for $2. The other issue is the Eastern European woman that all the other reviews have mentioned- I was a regular there and she always greeted me very coldly and overall showed no respect for her customers. An old man walked in to donate some clothes and she told him to place a donation in advance next time- fine- but she did it in a very rude way. I also hear her arguing with the other volunteers over prices and it seems that she has no sense of leadership. I’ve stopped going there all together- DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Heard about this shop from a friend of mine. Was greeted by friendly staff and I believe Cathy was the one who helped me. Found a black plate set and a lamp for my new apartment. Prices were better than the stores around me. I defiantly will be back.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.I am moving to New Canaan from a resort community and had a carton full of beautiful summer clothes, hats and handbags. Gently or never worn (NEW).I thought this thrift shop represented a good cause so I called to inquire about donating. My drive is 3-1/2 hrs to New Canaan. I made an appointment for 10:30AM.Traffic was light - I arrived at 9:30. Called the woman in charge (Eastern European woman mentioned in other reviews).I apologized for being early but could I drop off the carton + hats and bags. She asked me for my name - I gave it. Her reply: "You're not supposed to be here until 10:30!" All mad.I agreed but said traffic was light - could I drop off the merchandise. This Eastern European woman told me to call her when I got to the shop.I did. She did not pick up the phone. I called FOUR TIMES from my car.She did not pick up the phone. She was there and would not pick up the phone.I called my dear New Canaan friend and told her what was happening. This is the reply from my New Canaan friend: "Don't even give them a BLOUSE. That woman is a nasty piece of work. The clothes are overpriced and she is very rude. Take everything to Person-to-Person in Darien."I took everything to Darien and they were THRILLED. My stuff was FABULOUS.Don't believe positive reviews about this place - they are obviously PLANTED.This thrift shop is a disaster. That Eastern European woman - whoever she is - is in the WRONG JOB.

Great mission, but absolutely rude and unpleasant Eastern European lady handling the sales and donations. Speaks condescendingly to customers and donors. Unacceptable behavior. Will not return.
