We love the food at St. Anselm. We are frequent customers, we've made it our go-to spot for birthdays and anniversaries over the last 3 years. But we had our first bad experience this weekend. My group of 4 sat down and ordered a $50 carafe of red wine to share, to go with our steak. Unfortunately, before we could order anything else, there was a sudden power outage for the whole block, meaning they had to close for the evening. The outage was obviously not the St. Anselm's fault, but it was handled poorly. They asked us to pay for the wine and leave. But we also had to wait around for an additional hour to pay our bill (since their card reader didn't work), which seemed kind of petty. At the very least, they should have offered us a coupon or small gift card/free appetizer for a future meal. We were not offered anything, and it felt wrong to be asked to pay for wine we would not have ordered if we knew we would not be having a meal. Sadly, this experience makes us reconsider whether to keep coming back as our go-to celebration spot.

The burger is to die for. The chocolate chip pancakes are almost equally to die for. The space is cute and atmospheric and the service is friendly!

They have a top rating for a reason. 5-star food, service, and atmosphere. The biscuit appetizer with pimento cheese is amazing. The wagyu steak was even better - the salt seasoning was on point. I put salt on everything but no need to here because it's so flavorful (and cooked to perfection). I don't even need to try the ice cream to review it. Its handmade, and they have so many flavors, including marshmallow. Wish I could've indulged. Instead, I got one of the five dessert alcoholic flights. Again, amazing.Service - from everyone but specifically my waiter Mika - was phenomenal. Loved everyone here. And atmosphere is so intimate and warm.If I had to critique, I'd say don't sit next to the door. Super cold and windy in this corridor area. And, sharpen the steak knives. ?.

Book it. The best steak in DC that we've had.

Great food and atmosphere. Sommelier was very helpful and spot on with what we told him we wanted for our wine. Steaks were wonderful.

Ordered a cheeseburger from there tonight. It was overcooked and missing any toppings other than onion. I didn't even finish it. The iceberg wedges were also pretty averageNot sure if I just ordered at a bad time or what but based on the reviews I was expecting much better

Host/Hostess doesn’t know how to seat customers. There was a total of seven (7) tables available and yet they said it was a two hour wait. We waited for one hour and the tables were still vacant. Not sure if it’s the host or management but they do not know how to properly rotate walk-ins. Sad…

BRING BACK THE BRUSSELS SPROUTS, PLEASE. Switching out the Brussels sprouts for cabbage is an abomination. This is one of my favorite restaurants in DC but one of my favorite dishes along with the steaks was the Brussels sprouts, especially as someone who cannot eat carbs. Was sorely disappointed when I found out they were no longer on the menu last time we went. Also had an issue with my steak for the first time last time we went where it was very tough and hard to cut into and undercooked. They offered to replace it and it was much better but by that time I got it my partner was already done eating his steak. Overall still love the food, but really hope they bring back the Brussels sprouts.

We asked for a steakhouse and my friend wanted to try St. Anselm. Cool location in an up-and-coming area full of flofts - fake lofts - and millennials. The biscuits were amazing - light and fluffy - and the reimagining of the Waldorf and Wedge salads hit the mark. The mains weren't as stellar, but still good. Avoid the over-sauced and salty lamb and the bland and lukewarm sides. Great wine list and lots of cocktail options.
