At intake, I was told that my test (code) would not be covered by Medicare. I was given choice to “sign” to pay for the test myself, Or get a different Lab Order from my doctor. I needed the test to get my prescription refilled urgently. I asked 3-times if they were sure the test was not covered. So, I signed to be responsible for payment. Subsequently, I called my Doc who said they would (& they did) send a corrected code electronically. Next day, I called the Long Neck labCorp office to ask them to correct the code. I was told they entered the code on the Lab Order & could not change it. So, I asked, in general, what would happen if an error was made when a code was entered. I was told that could not happen b/c the system would reject the code. I explained I knew there are many “codes” for the same test & a doctor could make an error, or a “slip” of a key at intake could enter the incorrect code associated with the same kind of test & get “accepted” by the system. So, I asked, since people make mistakes, how would they “correct” a situation like the above. I was told, again, that the system would not accept the wrong code. I could not get the person (“Q”) to consider that an error could be made in the code. He told me to contact Customer Service. There a very courteous Rep. “listened”. She told me, “AT this point”: 1- it will take 5-7 Bus. Days for them to receive the test order; 2- Then, they would submit the Lab order to Med/Care; 3- At same time, they would send me a billing invoice; 4-It usually takes 30-45 Days for Med/Care to respond & both they & I would receive an EOB indicating the denial of payment; 5- At this time I would need to contact my Doc again & ask the to fax/call Billing w/ Corrected Code; 6- Billing will then wait another 30-45 Days to get Med/Care’s approval (or, Denial). So, if all this goes well, in 90-120 Days (excluding the wait time from when Billing receives the test data & the date it entered at Med/Care}, I will get this bill paid (hopefully Billing will extend the invoice payment date while we go through all these steps). On the positive, I was taken in within a few minutes of my appointment, the facility was clean And the Tech who did the test was professional & friendly.
