overall, we were satisfied with our experience. we had a major glitch on our way back to return the car. Unexpectedly the rear tire blew out in the highway in an unknown area to us. Neither AAA or Avis responded in a timely fashion. We sat on an exit ramp for over 3 hours. Our daughter suggested asking for a replacement car. I would have thought Avis might have suggested that as our first option. After much searching by us, we located an Avis location 5 miles away. We had the car towed there expecting that we would have to Uber (paid for by us) to the Tampa airport. However, Erin at the Brandon location was able to provide us with a car. She was, by far, the most helpful person. Because of her, we would use Avis again.No one expects to have these issues and it was a learning experience. I wish that someone would have taken the time to tell us what to do in an emergency situation or perhaps a card that says steps to take if (fill in the blank) happens. Too many layers of people to talk to when you call.

Where to begin? Such a horrible experience on just about every level. Leaving the counter, I'm told my car is in M40. Load up the car and at the exit I'm told, this is the wrong car, I must go back to the counter. They could have said, 'we messed up, please have a good day.' No, I have to unload the car, and go back to the counter, stand in line again, and try once more. This time, I'm told my car is in S41. Great. Except the spots stop at S40. There is a car of similar class parked in the no parking spot next to S40, but it is not the car described. Fortunately, it was close enough and they let me go.Returning the car was a further indication of how bad this outfit is. The line was literally backed up into the street. There were no places for returned cars to be parked, people were turning their cars off wherever in line they happened to be and walking away. Perhaps poor behavior on the renter's part, but after sitting in line for 30 minutes, not moving and your departure is approaching, can you blame them? Let's not forget that avis knows when people will be returning their cars. Yes, some maybe did so earlier than expected, but the majority didn't. They simply were not prepared to address a key element of the rental car business.I'm done with this company. Service over the last 4 years has never been good. There are other options.

Terrible service. I went to this office because it was close to my hotel and some friends who rented from Avis at the airport recommended it to me. I arrived asking about the cost of the day's rental and they offered it to me for 85 dollars, I told them that some friends had rented it at the airport and it cost them 60 dollars they told me that it wasn't you, the airport was much more expensive, I showed them the contract and they told me they would let me have it for 75 dollars. I accepted and wanted to reserve it for the next day. At 8 AM they told me that they couldn't insure my car at that time because they had 10 reservations at that time, that they would take it to me from that day so as not to be left without a car, I didn't want to because it meant paying one more day of rent and not I was going to use it, but I preferred to pay for it and have the car early. At the time of signing the contract, they charge me. On the card and signing the contract I see that on the day they were charging me 95 dollars, which was for insurance, taxes and I don't know what else. They had already charged my card. Besides, they had offered me a Corolla, and they ended up giving me a small Mazda hatchback that couldn't fit my suitcases.The car was dirty.When I returned it to the airport they were charging me 20 dollars more on the receipt, I asked why and they told me that they didn't know why the terminal was charging that extra. They spoke to a supervisor and he adjusted the price to take away the 20 dollars.Very bad experience, bad service, very abusive, they take advantage of the tourist

I've rented cars from Avis previously and never had any problems. Unfortunately this time I made a reservation, then realised I had got the dates slightly wrong (by a day, the difference in date format is confusing when your not concentrating) Anyway I tried to change the reservation immediately by calling Avis but unfortunately the woman said as it was an international reservation there was nothing they could do.Trying to change it on the website would have cost me more (even thought there was no difference in price when booking initially) so sadly i've had to leave it!!The moral of the story is double check your dates...because no matter how quickly you notice it will cost you more in the end.The rating of the 3 is for the lack of flexibility within 24 hours of making the booking.

Excellent service and friendly staff! Had a rental we drove down from Delaware (hybrid Jeep Grand Cherokee) develop issues shifting and constantly warning that the 4wd needed service (under 10k milage). Was very pleased with how fast and efficiently we were able to exchange for a like vehicle. Highly recommend and will rent from again.

I had to wait 20 minutes outside of Avis due to no one being inside. There was a sign stating that the person was going to be back before my reservation but that was not the case. The computers were down as well which caused me to be there even longer. I'm not sure if I will be renting from this location again.

During my recent experience with Avis, I encountered unsatisfactory service at the counter when I went to pick up my scheduled car at 8am at HOLLYWOOD PLAZA GARAGE (E2F). While I understand the need to turn on the system upon opening, the employee also took time for other routine tasks such as retrieving keys from the drop-off box. After waiting for 15 minutes, when I communicated the need to leave soon, the employee responded with an ironic "I am open[ing] the store." I reminded him that my car was scheduled for an 8am pick up. The overall interaction was marked by his impoliteness and lack of courtesy, which was highly disappointing.On the other hand, car return at Hard Rock Hotel was very smooth process.

"I rented a car for the first time with AVIS, never again! Terrible experience! The car came with dents, the air conditioning didn't work, there were cockroaches crawling inside, and there was marijuana in the car along with various other messes! I went back to the agency to try to exchange the car, but they simply refused to do so! I don't recommend this shameful company that doesn't respect its customers! Don't rent with AVIS, go to ALAMO instead!"

This Avis was wonderful. They upgraded me and they got me in and out and I was able to hit the road within 10min of giving my credit card and drivers license. I rented with them because TURO wanted $75 to rent a car, plus $75 for the app fee, and forced an insurance policy. Here the rental was $69 plus tax, unlimited miles, and they had an overnight key drop.
