Kalalau Trailhead is a popular and highly recommended destination for hikers and nature lovers visiting Kauai. The trail offers stunning views of the Napali Coast and takes visitors along a beautiful, sometimes challenging, route that leads to Hanakāpī‘ai Beach and Falls. The trail is considered moderate to advanced, so visitors should come prepared with good shoes, plenty of water, and sun protection. It is a memorable experience that provides scenery that cannot be captured fully in photographs. To access the trail, visitors must plan ahead. Parking spots at Ke’e Beach fill up quickly, so it’s advised to book a parking reservation on the Haena State Park website at least a month in advance. Alternatively, the Waipa Park and Ride shuttle service from Hanalei Bay is a convenient option to avoid congestion and parking issues. A shuttle ticket, costing around $40 per person, is required for entry, and it's recommended to reserve it early. Restrooms are available at the trailhead, but there are limited facilities along the route, so visitors should carry enough water and suitable shoes, avoiding flip flops or open-toed sandals due to uneven surfaces and potential slipping hazards. Beyond the trail, visitors can enjoy the nearby Hanakāpī‘ai Beach and River, which are perfect for a day trip, especially if started early to beat the sun. The trail and beach visits promise fun, exciting moments, and memorable views, making the Kalalau Trailhead a must-visit for those seeking adventure and natural beauty in Kauai.

Awesome hike. Needs a reservation and best to take the shuttle to the trailhead. We did the hike to an amazing waterfall. One of the coolest hikes ever.
