Placed an order for a platter days in advance only to find out that the day of pick up no one was at the restaurant. Waited outside for 30 min & no one showed up. Attempted to call numerous times throughout the day with no answer, until finally around 6:00 pm the restaurant answered! Only to find out that they decided to close for lunch the day before. No one attempted to contact me to advise me of this change! When asked to speak with the owner I was told the restaurant is busy & will have him call me back. One week later & still no return call. Horrible experience & probably won't ever support this local business again!

Ordered take out for a small family gathering. Customer service was good and they were very helpful however. The food was not memorable. The sushi was very bland as was the Teri chicken and salmon. The tempura items were fried crisp but again in general very very bland overall. Also no shout packets or utensils included in the order... The food was disappointing for the price and suggest they taste their food and check quality. There was also a comment on the rice not being sushi flavored or grade. I would fully agree, rice is very important but in this case it was not the focus and it really drops the food quality. I hope they fix the food issues as Hilo needs good quality and Ono Japanese food. 2 stars as the food wasn't bad.. but we were disappointed.

Very happy w/excellent service & same flavorful dishes--ordered 2 orders of Bento A, 1 order of C, the Chirashi Deluxe, & their Mermaid sushi roll; all came well packed (along w/sm secured bowls of miso soup), & made for a wonderful family dinner to celebrate a bday! (Food was so good, forgot to take any pix-!) :-{ lol ;-9

Sushi? Count me in! It's located next to Ding Tea and across of the Spencer Health & Fitness Center in central Downtown on Keawe Street. There's only street parking and sometimes, it gets kind of difficult to park during peak hours. This is one of the few places that I like coming to every once in a while for their chirashi or specialty rolls due to their relatively decent prices and portion. In my most recent trip, my roommate and I ordered takeout on their specialty rolls. I ordered their rainbow roll and hospital roll. The rolls actually looked relatively small compared to dining in. Thankfulthey weren't stingy with the fish. I loved the freshness of the fish. The hospital roll wasn't spicy at all, but the unagi sauce on top enhanced its flavor! If you're ever itching for sushi, this place will definitely fulfill your cravings! The prices aren't too bad either. P.S. highly recommend placing a phone order in advance since they've been really busy.

Ocean sushi is only doing take out right now. You can call ahead to order or order in person. Our food was done in about 10 minutes. We ordered the sushi box/platter A and nigiri sushi- tuna, salmon and shrimp. The price was significantly less than what we would have paid in New York so that was really a pleasant surprise. Nothing crazy, good basic sushi. There are plenty of parks/ areas nearby that you can take your lunch to.

Great food, short wait. Safe interactions. We got the bento box C. It was a festival of Japanese flavor. The food was plentiful, enough for a second meal. I will order from here again but maybe call ahead since waiting outside was fine but not ideal. Service nice as well. Easy to order. If first time I recommend a bento box so you can try a variety of food. Packaged easily for travel to picnic as well.

We ate here last night and it was delicious. The service was great and everything we ordered was delicious (all kinds of sushi, chicken katsu and the raw fish was fresh). We'll definitely be back soon!

The scallop is old, not fresh rock hard .. and the rolls are cut huge, fall apart.. I lost my appetite. The inconsistency on the size each rolls is disappointing as well. Please use fresh ingredients. This is unacceptable. I have worked in a sushi restaurant and am proud to say I know the difference..

Called in my order this morning, someone answered and immediately started giving attitude when I was making my order. Totally the vibe they were giving off. I honestly don't know what is up with the service lately, I hope you wake up and smell some coffee in the morning. I sent my other half to pick up the food... came back and told me he left a $5 tip. I'm sorry but you do not deserve a TIP FROM ME. I'd like a refund on that back. Won't be eating back there. Ever.

Love this sushi place! It's one of our family fav restaurants. I get the volcano, mermaid and rainbow rolls. Husband likes oyakudon. The kids get the kids bento and nabeyaki udon. Fast and friendly service. And it's a great to go place for covid times. They do great party sushi platters as well!

Sometimes they're open. Sometimes they're not. ??♀️Customer service is disappointing. Called in an order and got the impression they didn't want the business.Then got overcharged $10. They were reluctant to find an itemized receipt until we broke down each item's cost. May have to cruise down the street for some better service

I am so happy that ocean sushi has been able to stay open! The takeout service is efficient, and the safety practices to prevent virus transmission are well established. I highly recommend that you call in your order rather than walk up place it and wait for it cuz that will reduce your exposure to other people. But if you can't call it in go put your order in and it's really fast. Aloha

Friendly service, great price, and delicious fresh fish! Idon't understand why there are so many bad reviews. We live on the other side of the island and occasionally make trips to Hilo. When we do come to Hilo we always try to eat here before heading home.

I don't like leaving negative reviews, especially now when so many restaurants are struggling, but after 2 days of both my husband and myself experiencing severe digestive distress, I feel like it would be negligent not to at least make others aware of the situation. We had take-away sushi on Saturday evening. We shared a couple of rolls and some nigiri. I don't know which item(s) the problem arose from, but within a couple of hours we were both ill. Today (Monday) I'm finally feeling almost back to normal, but my husband is still experiencing some symptoms of food poisoning. The food all tasted good, and I hope this was an isolated incident. We eat a lot of sushi and have never been made sick from it before. This was our first time trying Ocean Sushi, and I'm afraid we won't be going back.
