This bank has very rude managers. They speak to you like you’re stupid, the banking online provides false information just so you’ll give them your money then when you want it, it won’t be available till way after you need it. There tracking of purchases and account balance is almost always off and takes days to update to the correct amount. Fraud alerts on almost every other purchase I call almost every other day to have fraud alerts canceled and the bank is almost never helpful over the phone and impossible to get someone on the phone with you. I would not recommend this branch to anyone and if you ever have to go and speak with a manager there …goodluck because they don’t give two you know what’s about you.

I'm so glad that I read the reviews before opening an account at first Hawaiian. It appears that this bank has no Aloha and treats people like crap. Thanks to the customers who shared their experiences so I didn't have to go through the same thing

Really poor customer service. Their banking app is practically non functional. Electronic transfers can take days to process. The workers will actively mislead you.

I went to the bank to use their ATM, unfortunately the dont have the wireless/tap feature. I am visiting and has different banking. Didnt have a physical card with me. The teller was really nice and tried pointing me to the other bank ATMs that she thought may have upgraded their atm to wireless tap feature.

I am truly at a loss for words. I’ll preface with I’ve been banking with First Hawaiian for nearly 10 years and I’m going to be closing my account with them due to this incident. I got a call from this branch at the end of the day today that “they accidentally credited me $1700 during an atm deposit” and they were going to take this money back out of my account. She was EXTREMELY rude to me, telling me that they have footage showing that I did not deposit the cash into the atm and that their atm count was $1700 negative. She argued me on the phone for 10 minutes and told me they’d give me a callback while I look for the receipt. I am POSITIVE that I deposited this cash, and it sent me into a panic looking for my receipt and worried that my bank was going to steal $1700 out of my account. The atm had eaten $60 of my cash during the deposit at the time. I was inside of the branch when this happened and spoke with a teller who let me know they would need to confirm that it ate my money before they credited my account which, okay. He said they would give me a call to confirm too which they never did, but I did see a credit on my account for $50. I did find my receipt proving that I made the deposit, after searching for an hour in tears racking my brain thinking maybe I’m crazy. DO NOT bank with this branch, do not do atm deposits, and if you do - keep every receipt. I have never trusted a bank less, and I’m astounded that this bank employee gaslit me, blamed me, and threatened me. I wish I would’ve gotten her name. The bank closed by the time I tried to call back, but they will be hearing from me.

Hawaii deserves better than this bank which completely lacks in both customer service and modern banking tools. Avoid it if you can and use something else for banking and loans as they are still operating from the 1900s.

Why is this branch so rude to their customers? I’ve had several situations in which I’ve been met with a general attitude of defiance and laziness. I’ve only been a customer with FHB for the last 10 months and already I want out. I’m from Oahu born and raised and my parents have been banking here for decades but they live in town and anytime I’ve gone to a FHB brunch in town with them it’s been a pleasant interaction. It would be wise for HR to do a little “secret shopping” on this branch to see how underwhelming their customer service is.

Terrible customer service. Trying to deposit a BOH check from across the street, and the teller manager put a two day hold on a local check on a Friday at 4:00 closing time. That means funds are not available until the following Wednesday. That was down right mean. Maybe she had a bad day, but I do not want to give my business to a bank that treats their customers poorly. And she copped a big time attitude, when I complained. I'm closing my accounts at 1st Hawaiian Bank. Worse customer service EVER.

The Kailua branch has terrible service ……the branch manager was unwilling to help us refi a loan to save our house I tried to ask questions to remedy my situation but didn’t get much of a response from them because of poor follow up I have managed to pay the loan back …..but now since you paid them their money …..it’s still a challenge to get the last piece of the paperwork done……take this from experience don’t do business with them

There is no way to get hold of customer service per email. Next we tried to call...patiently waited 17+ min and each time their phone hung up after 17min30sec. Numerous attempts same result

Anna Lui, who’s been our bank manager for a couple of decades, was one of the nicest and most diligent persons you could know. Having read all these peoples negative words , I began to realize how what they were seeing, was just a reflection of themselves, reaping the attitudes they were sowing because in my last 50 years of doing business with First Hawaiian, they have always been awesome. So my advice to these complainers is, go back to where you came from. And take your attitudes with you.Jd

If like me you are dragging your euro vs dollars exchange...and you go to a town in Hawaii without a currency exchange office...all is not lost the first hawaiian bank allows the exchange even without a bank account with them. . and with reasonable fees... And all this with a smile.
