After a long week of eating solely fish and shrimp, my family grew tired of seafood. We were assured by the staff the meat is halal. The Chilli chicken, chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani and lamb curry were so appreciated after this long of a week. The garlic naan was amazing as well. The service was great and speedy. Would recommend.

We enjoyed a couple of meals at Shivalik during our stay in Kauai. The food was excellent; starters as well as entrees were delicious. We tried aloo-gobi, chana sag, paneer makhni, dal makhani etc. Naan and aloo paratha were also nice. The service was good and the staff was polite. The only reason for not giving it five stars is the long wait for dinner. The first time, we had to wait about 45 mins outside the restaurant. The next time, we were seated immediately, however, the waiter did not take our orders until about 45 mins. I wish they would just take reservations to manage the crowd better. If I ever visit Kuaui again, I will definitely go back to this restaurant.

One and only Indian restaurant in Kauai. Great food and excellent service. The owner was amazing sharing details of the island including the hospital suggestion for my sick kid. Thank you!

Never go here. Terrible service. When you ask for the change after cash payment, they will give you a bunch of pennies (photo). *There is an additional +3.7% charge for credit card payment, so they try to make the customers pay in cash. Although most of the customers here seem to pay in cash, the lady in the counter says that they don't have quarters and give pennies for changes. So funny. The counter lady even gave less change, and when I asked that the change was incorrect, she very rudely tossed more pennies on the counter. She then said "you need 5 cents more? I can give you.". So terrible person. Never ever go here.

We came here as a family after stopping at the Kauai Hindu temple. We ordered bindi masala, aloo gobi, rice, a veg biryani, paneer tikka masala and plain naan. The paneer was very good, but quantity was super small for the price. Everything else we ordered in medium which turned out to be way too spicy. The mild was a good spice level. Prices were expensive which we'd expect in Hawaii but they didn't tell us until we paid that by using card they add an extra % and automatically add a 18% gratuity. That should be stated on the menu. We luckily had cash, but overall turned into a very pricy lunch.

Don't bother with this place. I truly have been wanting to download yelp to save people from this place!!!! So here it is! It's absolutely ridiculous wait time. Over priced and doesn't taste good. Sorry not sorry...

We were in Kauai 5 days, we stayed in resort across the street, we wanted Indian food, when we read the reviews it was bit mix bad n good, thought to check once with low expectation, surprised when we enter in restaurant amazing aroma comes from the food from other's table, we order dal tadka, bhindi do pyaza, paneer makhani, tandoori roti, garlic naan, we usually never write reviews but it force me to write bcoz the food was very very delicious, we ate there almost 4 time in our trip, I must say this is the only authentic food in all over USA highly highly recommend super hospitality and great food! Must visit.

Food was good but customer service was the worst. They charge gratuity of 18% plus they want you to pay them back credit card processing fee. You probably will not see these charges until you go to the cashier and pay.

The management of this restaurant is very poor. The lady at the front desk told me there is 40 mins wait at first and ask me to wait outside. When I walked in to check again , she said she cant take us in since she closes at 9. She told me this at 8 - 1 hour before closing and after waiting for good 30 mins. Another experience we had at the same place was food takes forever to be served once we place the order. Food was not bad. I wish it was well managed!

Authentic Indian food, excellent meal! The papadam was exceptional, the chicken saag was a hands down the best saag we have had. Did spicy on the chicken vindaloo and it was spot on. The papaya peanut salad was fantastic. Super nice owners too and not sure why this place isn’t 4stars+. Nice treat to have true Indian food on the island!

SCAM WARNING don't order food to take out. tried to make me pay twice. they charged us through door dash, and I called while in the restaurant and confirmed that they got paid. they insisted that I had to pay again even after confirming that they already got paid. I left without the food, and they got paid for it. while standing at the counter they said this review is fine.

My wife and I are visiting and saw an advertisement for Shivalik in a tourist pamphlet. Checked the menu online and decided to try the restaurant. Once we were seated we asked to see the menu and were told we had to eat from the buffet. At the buffet a stack of penal institution/MASH type metal trays were available for us to put food into. A good number of flavorful vegetable curries, "Tandoori" chicken drumsticks, chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Curry were available. I attempted to have the Tikka Masala but was unable to find any chicken in the metal buffet warming tray. The Lamb Curry turned out to be cold, the meat hardened and the sauce congealed. Upon beginning to eat the "Tandoori" drumstick I saw that it was only "Tandoori" seasoning placed on the chicken, it lacked the characteristic pink coloration that is associated with the time consuming preparation in a proper oven, as I have experienced numerous times at good Indian restaurants. A paper sign on the wall drooping over the meat dishes warned that the restaurant had to throw out over 15 pds of food the previous day so "eat what you take." Interestingly, take out customers and a "select" group of onsite diners had menu dishes prepared in the kitchen and did not have to utilize the buffet. 20 minutes into the experience a bowl of chicken bits and pieces were dumped into the Tikka Masala warming tray sauce and stirred in. My wife had some of the chicken but I did not partake, fortunately for me as she developed an uncomfortable gastrointestinal issue about 45 minutes later that I was not inflicted with. There was no service, no one checked to see how we were doing and when I got up to pay at the cash register, I was informed that the advertised price and menu pricing was "cash" only (no notice given) and that if I wanted to use a credit card it was almost 4% additional. My wife believes online reviews won't make a difference and is contacting the Kauai Health Dept on Monday.
