Great gym. Very low key. I was looking for something more with a personal touch and this is it. Working with one of the trainers there Justin and he has been great so far. Listened to my goals and built me a plan specific to my needs.

Great small gym, owner was nice initially. You will enjoy your time, but beware...
I'm unfortunately leaving a bad review for their poor billing practices, made a great experience turn into a bitter taste.
There should be no reason why a canceled membership in May would be billed in June AND July, and no clue if he will bill my husband and I again in August even after text exchanges.
Frank was informed of a prepaid set period of 5 months, and my monthly membership. He tried to continue to bill for a PREPAID period for months outside of it, and then is continuing to bill for a CANCELED membership for June and July. Thats 60 days past cancelation request.
He is operating outside of even the 30 day cancelation terms he has set (although not necessary again for a prepaid term) and will provide proof if he even dares saying that its not true.
Frank, stop billing us. Correct your bookkeeping, I can forget June even though wrong, but billing again in July is intentional malpractice and willful deceit, do not bill again in August.

I enjoyed my time at the gym — it’s well-equipped, especially for powerlifting. There were always enough racks and space to work out, and I never had an issue with the facility itself.
The problem came after I left.
Before starting my membership, I told Fred (the owner) I was only going to be around for five months because I was moving in June. He agreed and billed me upfront for five months — no discount or anything, just paid in full. Fine with me.
But after the five months, I was billed again — even though I had communicated that I was done and wouldn't be returning.
Despite following up with Fred, I kept getting charged, not only was I not refunded but I am still getting charged. He didn’t mention at any point that I would be auto-enrolled into monthly billing or that I needed to cancel separately. That’s a detail you’d expect a business owner to clarify, especially when someone is prepaying for months in advance. It felt like a lack of transparency — or worse, an intentional oversight to squeeze a few more payments.
I tried to dispute the charge with my bank, but because it was a debit card, I lost the claim. Now I have no idea if I’ll keep getting charged.
To anyone considering this gym: the equipment is great, and you’ll likely have a good workout experience. But the billing practices left a bad taste in my mouth, and I can’t recommend it in good faith because of that. I would never recommend to a friend, but if you are deciding on going to this place, use an amex so you win your claim.
--**-- Edit make to this review after the owners response
Fred responded saying I “signed two different forms” and implied I somehow canceled twice. To clarify:
I prepaid for 5 months because I was moving out of state. Before starting my membership, I told Fred this directly, and he agreed. After my 5 months were up, I was surprised to see I was still being charged.
When my wife canceled her month-to-month membership, we followed the standard cancellation process, knowing the policy required 30 days’ notice. She got billed one extra time, and I have no problem with that—it’s part of his policy, and we understood that going in.
But my situation was different.
At no point did I think I needed to cancel something I had already paid in full and explicitly told him was a set term. I filled out the cancellation paperwork as a courtesy to help him keep his headcount accurate, not because I thought I was agreeing to be billed again.
Fred even acknowledges in his response that the membership started when my mother wanted to buy me 5 months as a Christmas gift. Since she couldn’t sign up for me directly, I went in and paid the full 5 months myself. Despite knowing this was a prepaid, fixed-term arrangement, I’ve now been billed twice after moving out of the state of Idaho. I'm unsure if I'll be billed again in the month of August.
This wasn’t disclosed to me, and it feels like a serious lack of transparency.

Our son started training with Fred in prep for the next sports and what a difference he made! His expertise helped with agility and movement, not only strength. I highly recommend him for anyone seeking to up their game.

My wife and I have been attending Fred’s classes for the last several months and we are very happy. The set up of the class is a great balance with coaching time and also independent workouts.

ASAP is the best gym in CDA. It has a family friendly/community vibe. The equipment is good quality and clean. Fred provides great workouts that keep you engaged and sore every single session.
Fred and Marcia are very knowledgeable with various lifts and help me with my form and pushing me during the classes!
Love this gym and thankful that it’s gotten me back into a workout routine! Can’t recommend enough, which is why all my friends go to this gym now 😂

My 14 yr old son has been working with Fred at American Strength and Performance for 9 months. My son plays lacrosse at a very competitive level. Often playing on the east coast where players have access to lacrosse training readily available. Living in Northern Idaho we don't have that luxury so we have to make gains in other ways. Working with Fred has been a game changer for my son. With getting stronger comes more confidence which has been so much fun to watch. Incorporating weekly workouts with Fred was the missing piece in our son's training schedule. We are lucky to have such a valuable resource right here in Northern Idaho.

The gym is excellent because it provides both classes where you can workout with an instructor, as well as open gym time to train by yourself. The coaches take time to feel out what your needs are, and they offer appropriate ideas for training and modifications..

Fred accommodated our group of men for an even we were hosting. He made sure we had everything we needed, gave us a tour, and treated us like members even though we were guests. Would HIGHLY recommend if you're in the area and enjoy a very versatile gym playground with plenty of tools.
