Went in for a home mortgage loan and things started rough from day one. Made an appointment with the loan officer who FORGOT he had an appointment and was elsewhere. Quoted us a 3.5% interest rate and got to work. Few days later, he said he'd get to us and our realtor about the finer details. One week later, no word from him at all. Called in numerous times and never got a hold of this guy. Supposedly he got an appraisal ordered which he never communicated and then after numerous calls, he FINALLY sent us papers to sign for the loan. In the papers, the bank tried to slide in an interest rate of 5%, and asked cosigners to put up hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of land as collateral on a house worth less than a hundred grand and asked for $2500 closing costs. Shady business run by slow-moving small bank. Went to Better Banks in Bartonville for instantly lower rates (under 3% interest rate balloon for first 5 years) with closing costs of only $1000, ordered for an appraisal right away, was told could be all done within 2 weeks. Not sure if farmers get completely different deals, but I would definitely not recommend this bank for home mortgaging.
