These "tax planning" businesses are a mafia running a national scam, they quickly and easily rack up a $400 charge in order to help you pay money. Let that sink in - in America we think it's normal to spend a couple hundred bucks in order to give the government what they say we have to give them. Crazy thing is, this is not the government's fault for once! It is TurboTax and H&R Block's goons abusing lobby and freedoms to ensure their products are relevant. Good luck finding a free tax planning service for both state and national forms, and tough luck if you end up with an error with these people; they offer no customer support after taxes are filed, and will not assist in any way should be IRS come after you charging fees for H&R Block errors. Even worse than that, you probably think this is a good option for doing your taxes. What a mess! We should have return free filing like a modern nation but H&R and TurboTax have duped us. We should not need spend money to pay money but instead if we have anything more than a W2 we have to pay money and lots of hours in order to pay money! If H&R messes up your stuff, good luck getting any assistance or compensation for the massive fees the IRS may demand for the errors on your taxes. "The company has spent nearly $13 million in Washington lobbying since 2010 to "oppose IRS government tax preparation," among other things. H&R lobbies alongside Intuit (TurboTax) to keep tax reform backwards. The supporters of an easy tax filing program (like Return Free Filing which the majority of first world countries utilize) include President Obama, and many tax experts and economists. Obama's former economic advisor Austan Goolsbee estimated in 2006 that return-free filing could apply to as many as 40% of taxpayers, saving them as much as 225 hours of time and more than $2 billion a year in tax-preparation fees. It could also save the government an estimated $36 million a year through reduced errors and investigations. H&R Block has spent $9 million in lobbying since 2010, according to a database compiled by Maplight.org, including in support of legislation that would bar the federal government from providing individual tax filing or preparation services" (Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael Hiltzik, LA Times). H&R and Intuit are capitalist terrorists: offering Americans tax solutions manipulating government to ensure they are needed.
