Dr Vaccaro follows symptoms rather than textbook and correctly diagnosed my cat's problems. MSAH staff are the best!

Dr. Joe is the best but all of the staff and vets are great. Trust them to provide the highest quality care. They always call a few days after a visit to see if the issue is still doing ok. Couldn’t recommend them higher!

They're awesome here. I travel for work often, and have had multiple conflicts with meeting appointment dates, they have worked around my calendar without a single complaint, and with zero stress.
They've given top notch care to my dog with more than reasonable prices, and actually waved fees for multiple visits in 1 week due to my dog pulling staples out early.
If you like stress free visits to a Grade A vet who doesn't want to gouge your wallet, or pocket book, M.S.A.H freret should be at the top of your list.

A friend recommend Metairie Small Animal Hospital when I adopted my pup, Lestat. I like that they are in my neighborhood but can also go to the main location if needed. They were helpful in getting my on the right track for training a new puppy. His vaccines and neutering went very smoothly. When Lestat is there i know he is in good hands.

The staff was friendly and I was hopeful that the issue was solved (cat had broken nail). However, one of the doctors gave her an antibiotic shot without informing me of any potential side effects or how long it would stay in her system. When I called back because she was drooling a lot, uninterested in food or water, the doctor who gave her the shot said he was unaware that was a potential side effect. He literally looked up side effects as i was on the phone with him. A single Google search took me to the manufacturers website which stated not only drooling as a side effect, but also loss of appetite, seizures, anemia, and even death. Regardless of how rare potential side effects are, I should have been informed. The next day another doctor called back and made me feel like I was overreacting, nevermind my cat has a history of illness due to dehydration and lack of appetite, so had I been informed I would have never allowed the shot. To their credit, they kept calling to check on her progress, but that's not very helpful when I had to start syringe feeding and giving her water by syringe until she got her appetite back. The second doctor telling me that she would probably be fine while she was drooling and lethargic was the opposite of helpful. Also hearing "never in my 20 years..," I could not care less about if someone hasnt seen this exact symptom from this medication at their practice, because it obviously does happen, and it's the doctors job to be aware of potential side effects and inform the owner. I talked to a much more understanding vet at Avenue Emergency, and continued to syringe feed until she got better (2 full days). I will not be going back, and I recommend asking many questions of the doctors if you go, as they will obviously not volunteer that information. The medication was convenia, and if you have a small pet I would not recommend allowing this medication to be used on them. It stays active in their system for two weeks, and remains in their system for around 64 days, so if they do happen to be allergic, there's nothing you can do to stop the effects. All that to say, it was an incredibly stressful situation and I did not feel supported by the staff. My total bill was around 170 (50 for the shot that made her sick, 20 for pain medication I couldn't give her due to the lack of food in her system, and 75 for the exam. The rest was because she simply needed her nails trimmed).

Had an amazing experience here getting our 14 year old shorkie Marley and our 2 year old Scottish fold Tosh checked out. Dr. Joe Vaccaro was extremely professional and fully explained everything he did putting us completely at ease. His bedside manor is off the chart. I highly recommend checking this place out for all your pet needs.

Dr. Joe and the team at the Freret location have been great. We have been to different vets in different states with our older cat that had a number of issues in the five years we had him. We recently lost him and the care given by this team was amazing. The time taken in his visits and clear explanation of the issues during his disease helped reduce our stress. At the end, the options and hard, honest conversations gave us peace. They made it as easy as it could be and the hand written sympathy card from the team received in the mail a week later was just another kind act letting us know they care as much as we do for our family members. Our younger cat will be getting to know the team soon.

My cats have been seeing Dr. Joe and his staff for many years now. I can not begin to describe how compassionate Dr. Joe, Janna, Carl and Kelsey are. After trying multiple vets in the city I brought my senior kitty, Emma to Dr. Joe. Other vets were ready to give up on her because of old age. Emma recently had a stroke and Dr. Joe discovered she had kidney disease among other health issues. Previous veterinarians, told me Emma would not survive another month. Dr. Joe created a treatment plan for Emma and she lived for three more years. His staff always found a way to fit us into their schedule if Emma wasn't feeling well. If I ever had a question or concern Dr. Joe was always willing to discuss over the phone or in person. Dr. Joe, really evaluates what could be wrong with your pet. His knowledge of treatment options is unparalleled and his commitment to your animal is rarely found elsewhere. I highly recommend Dr. Joe and his staff at MSAH on Ferret.
