Working with AFI was one of the best calls we could have made on our home improvement projects. They were responsive, fairly priced, quick, and thorough in their work. We ended up with a far better result for less money than had we tried it ourselves or gone with someone else. Can’t recommend highly enough, and we’ll definitely go to them for all future home improvement needs!

My project was a very large one. I first picked Affordable Home Improvement solely based on price. The compatators were quoting me prices that were 3 to 4 times higher than Sydney (Senior).Plan was to completely tare down the interior of the existing 4 units building and to expand it up and out into a 6 units building with increased number of bedrooms and NEW EVERYTHING!The Project was started in 2019 but a whole year was lost due to a bad architect who did not do his job at all. But together we were able to push through and get the building permit from DCHA and started work in 2020. Unfortunately, soon after COVID hit and everything slowed down or completely stopped so another year was lost.By 2021, post COVID eara, prices were much higher than when we started. What I really liked about working with Sydney was that we discussed the situation and came up with a plan that was fair for both of us to get the project moving. He was open to listen when I was not happy with a situation and would correct it. Since, I live in Atlanta and the project was in DC I had an independent 3rd party company do inspection for me intermittently to make sure things were done appropriately and Sydney would get the report and would work on everything that I thought needed to be addressed. The project was long and difficult but Sydney 's honesty and integrity to stay true to his word made this project successful. I was trying to post some pictures here so you can see how Sydney was able to finish the project beautifully and not too far from the original budget.I would definitely recommend Sydney (senior) for a project such as mine!!Thank you.Munit.If there is a way to post pictures let me know!Services: Kitchen countertop installation

They did my kitchen in 2021. Syd Jr. who was the project manager. I will not work with him again. He really didn't do much except collect payments. I designed the kitchen, ordered the materials, provided drawings, and oversaw much of the work. I banned him from the house due to his unprofessional behavior. Ms. Pam Reynolds, the office manager, stepped in to complete the work minus one door that was on back order. I hired someone else to install the door. In the end the kitchen turned out nice thanks two their two workers - Angel and Oscar - and Ms. Reynolds. The price was good, but not worth the stress that I went through working with Syd Jr.Services: Kitchen cabinet installation

Syd and his team were fantastic! They were thorough and fast but didn’t compromise quality. They’re very detailed oriented and made it easy to flow through the process with updates, photos and invoices throughout the entire process. We’d work with them again in a heartbeat!Service: Remodeling

I had three others vendor who tried to get my door installation correct. I made a call to ahi, the came out the next day to give estimate and the next day to do installation. How impressive is that. I’m still waiting on a company in Waldorf to send quote. It has been 4 weeks. Professional and courteous, AHI nailed it!
My basement is unfinished so i will be making more calls to ahi. I already made call to install a front door. I just love the service.

I had a very positive experience with AHI. I contacted them, Sydney gave me an estimate and within a week the project was completed. But the best part is that everything was done in LESS THAN eight hours. I provided all materials so they could get started right away. I had a basement sliding door replaced with a french door, a front stoop railing built from scratch, an a/c heating vent put in bathroom, moved an electrical cable & switch over, replaced two exterior motion lights, my front porch light repaired, they caulked a gutter leak, and installed three bifold closet doors. All this with a three man team. My experience with this company was Excellent.

Unprofessional in EVERY aspect. Take your business elsewhere.TLDR: Took our deposit, delayed our project for months and I couldn't get a hold of anyone, business owner stepped in and turned it back around on us, finally completed the work after 3 months, harassed us for the insurance payout within days.We signed a contract with AHI mid-August 2020 and put down a 5K deposit for roof repairs and they tell us the work should be completed within a month. The end of September rolls around, nothing. I reach out multiple times and finally hear back from Jason who says "probably mid-October". October wraps up, now it's November. Reach out multiple times again to Jason and Martin and finally had to call the office manager before Martin finally calls me back (apparently Jason is no longer employed there). He tells me he'll follow up with additional information (doesn't) and now I'm fishing for answers again. He finally tells me that the project will start Saturday, November 21 and I ask him to keep me posted if anything changes.I reach out to Martin on Thursday, November 19 and ask him if everything is scheduled to start on Saturday and he says "no, we couldn't get supplies in time with the holidays". So the work still isn't happening AND no one had the courtesy to tell us. We're fed up. The office manager (the only helpful person in this entire process) refers us to Sydney, the business owner and is empathetic about how frustrating this whole situation has been. I speak to Sydney and he apologizes and says he can offer us a refund OR get it done for us by the following Friday or they'll "give back the deposit along with an additional $200". He tells us that in the time it takes for us to find another contractor, they can get it done. He also tells me that I don't have to communicate with Martin anymore and that everything can be directly relayed to him.I spend the next few days going back and forth with Martin because he tells me he can't get it done within the week. He tells me Sydney gave him a longer timeline to get it done. I say it's not my problem and that it's something that the two of them can workout. When I follow up with Sydney to ask what the issue is, he tells me "Well I'm not out here being a liar like you're trying to make me out to be but I didn't know your roof was that big when I promised you that final date." ...? Isn't that your job to know before making promises to your customers? So now it's my problem somehow?Several screaming matches later, the work finally gets done. We get HARASSED for the rest of the payment (coming from insurance) within days. Martin is literally showing up at mom and dad's doorstep unannounced. He calls dad every other day. Insurance tells them they've paid us (they haven't). I text Sydney out of courtesy to give him an update about following up with insurance and he tells me he doesn't have time for this back and forth, basically accuses us of lying and withholding their money, and that he needs his payment now. I stop short of telling him to shove it but politely tell him that I'm trying to also get this quickly resolved and want nothing to do with them. I also remind him that our contract gives us 30 days from their submission of the final invoice to insurance for us to make a payment.Insurance finally pays us, we pay them. Insurance says that the payment was delayed because they reached out to AHI for additional information on their claim and couldn't get a hold of anyone.Shoutout to Pam, the office manager, the only person who had any decency throughout this entire process. I regret giving AHI a single dime of our money and am still in shock with how dysfunctional and poor our experience was, given all these glowing reviews. It shouldn't have been this hard and frustrating.
