February 2023 by Meron Abraham
JBS has been our second home since 2020. Both our boys are enrolled at the Olney location and they love it so much. Ms. Oginga, toddler classroom teacher is so kind and affectionate, my boys run to her every morning, as well as Ms. Perez and DeMoya in the primary classroom are wonderful teachers. The classrooms are so intimate and we have met other great parents over the years and stay in touch outside of school. It's a nurturing environment for kids and would highly recommend it for other parents as it will provide a solid foundation and a long lasting positive impact on their lives.

Our daughter has been with JBS since February and she has already learned her ABC’s, counting in both English and Spanish, her colors and more. She runs straight to her teacher and hugs her every morning and has made so many friends. It’s easy to tell she has found her second home and is flourishing! She loves telling us, in her toddler way, the new things she learned.

My daughter attended JBS Olney in person from August 2019-March 2020, and virtually from March-June 2020. The school is located near my job prior to the pandemic, so a big reason we picked it was because of convenience as she was 19 months old when she started. What we didn’t know was the impact attending a Montessori program would have on her and us as we began our stay at home life. JBS taught her songs and concepts I never even thought a 2 year old would learn. She learned how to play and learn independently. She had a structure and routine that was critical to her development. She had a teacher that was so kind and caring, and got to know her in the short time she was there. I found the distant learning lessons to be so amazing, and even taught me a few things, including some Latin! I am forever grateful for my daughter’s time there.

This is a terrible school all over. My son was there for a year. They used to not allow parents to come inside the school. Then they finally allowed that. I came one day to pick up my son and as I am looking out of the window, I see a girl on top of him giving him mouth to mouth just like adults do. The teacher was next to them and she didn’t do anything. When I complained that this is wrong on so many levels. The owner of Julia browns called my wife in the middle of the day, very angry, and said you have to pick up ur son right now and she kicked my son out of the school. Very unprofessional.

If there is a zero star option, this is what this school deserves, no respect for the child or his parents, no engagement with the family about their child progress. I have not seen any educational or moral progress with my child. Teacher level of education and capability to teach is zero. One year of what they called education, my child still writes the Z inverted. The teacher did not have a capability to correct that!!!!!!eligibility of this school to take this name.Horrible on all levels

I love the care and attention that the directresses and administration provide to the students. I have seen my daughter grow by leaps and bounds over the past year and a half since attending JBS. We particularly love Ms. Oginga and Ms. Perez.

Needless to say we did not like this preschool, fits the Montesory scam perfect, you get like 30min of education, only one Montesory teacher???, the rest of the time unqualified personell will be manhandling your child. First we noticed how frustrated our kid came home every day, then he finally told us his wrist is hurting from someone of the staff grabbing him, that got our attention quick. After that the staff tried to put the problem on our child, it’s all the kid and not this miserable place!?! We got him out in a hurry, and what a surprise he is doing very well in a different preschool…

We joined in the midst of Pandemic and loved the support and careful considerations for health and safety. The smaller size of the school made it a perfect choice for our siblings and they ended up walking in happily hand to hand. The Montessori structure is really golden for nurturing that passion of independent learning. I am so impressed and grateful for how much the boys learned in a short period of time. They keep surprising me with cultural knowledge and facts that I didn’t learn about growing up in a foreign country! I highly recommend the school to children at any stage of their learning. Julia Brown is a true gem of Olney!

Our daughter attended Julia Brown for kindergarten and it was a wonderful experience for her and our family. JB came highly recommended by friends and colleagues and it definitely exceeded expectations. The teachers were fantastic and she learned so much. We left JB simply due to logistics and she's now a grade level ahead in reading and math at her current school and her social and and emotional skills get tons of praise from teachers. A lot of that is due to JB and we will likely place our son there when the time comes and possibly enroll him even earlier so he can have more of an experience there.

My son has been attending Julia Brown Schools, Olney since he was age 2 and he is now in Kindergarten. We have been very happy with all the teachers he has had in the Toddler, Primary and Kindergarten classes. All the teachers have been with the school for a very long time and the periodic feedback we have received on my Son has been spot on! We feel the environment for learning in the school is very good and we are happy to see our Son thriving!

All 3 of our children have attended Julia Brown in Olney and we have nothing but great things to say - our daughters (now 5 and 10) attended primary through Kindergarten and our son (3) is currently enrolled in the primary class. For our daughters, we were impressed with how much they learned, and we thought JBS set them up very well to start 1st grade at OES (in both reading and math). For our son, he looks forward to going to school each day - playing outside, signing songs, and doing arts and crafts. He has also learned to do everyday things like put on his jacket by himself and zip it. Now that things have pretty much opened from Covid, the school has now resumed in-class observations and in-person parent teacher conferences, which is great. We have never had a concern about the safety of our children while they are at school. We would highly recommend JBS to other parents.

I have not seen any educational or moral progress with my child. Teacher level of education and capability to teach is zero. One year of what they called education, my child still writes the Z inverted. The teacher did not have a capability to correct that!!!!!! I had been in international Montessori school when I was a child, the level of emotional and social support was beyond amazing, while julia brown has nothing to do with emotional and social support. I have no idea how Montessori allowed them to run under their name with such poor standards of education and engagement with the child, never mind the gloominess of this school, old furniture, no modern methods of learning, my child continuously expressed how unhappy he was there. Kids don't lie!!!!

The Julia Brown School has provided my child with an excellent academic experience. In addition to reading, writing, math, and social studies this school has taught my child the important executive function skills to be a confident and independent “learner.” The developmentally appropriate approach used to present material builds a solid foundation to support higher level academics.
