I waited to see how long it would be between instances to post this. This time it was about a week between instances. My biggest (and only) gripe about this place is that someone is always downstairs wiping down treadmills or mopping the floor but we can’t get BOTH paper towels AND cleaning solution consistently in the designated spots upstairs. Which means no one is cleaning off the strength training equipment. Like okay fine if folks don’t do it, they don’t do it but for those of us that want to wipe things down PLEASE consistently provide paper towels and cleaning solution. I usually come in the mornings, thinking surely a basic step of opening a gym is to stock the paper towel holders and refill the solution stations. I’m not asking for broken equipment to be fixed, or to add new equipment, just let me consistently wipe down the equipment you provide. Every time I bring this to front desk staff and it’s rectified, but I’m like why is this a thing that keeps happening?

I've been a member here since they opened. The only issue is shoddy maintenance. The hot tub needs a deep clean. What good is changing the water is you don't scrub the scum around the ring.

The gym is always dirty, janitors are rude and excessively loud like they hate their job so much. Some machines constantly don’t work. They be ripping thousands of dollars and just laugh at how d*** you are for coping

Note: this review applies to LA fitness company as a whole, since it involves their corporate office in California. Therefore it applies to all LA fitness locations that offer personal training. When I had my first personal training session, was not satisfied, and attempted to cancel the contract the very next day, I was told that the 3 day window applies to the date I signed the contract, not the day of the first session. At the time of signing the contract I told the salesman that I’ll be traveling for a week and therefore won’t schedule my first session until I’m back, and yet despite that he allowed me to continue to believe that I will have a chance to cancel. If I knew I won’t, I wouldn’t sign the contract until after I got back. This is only the most glaring of numerous other misrepresentations that salesman made. And yet despite me using only a single 25-minutes session, not setting foot into that gym since that day, and even canceling my membership, therefore physically preventing me from being able to receive PT service, they still refuse to cancel the PT contract and keep insisting that my only option of getting out of it is a 50% buyout for the remaining 11 months, which enables LA fitness to earn over $2.5k out of thin air on me – twice as much if were to refuse to consent to the buyout and let the contract run its course. And from my further interactions with them I learned that they are now putting "late fees" on top of the "debt" I supposedly owe them. I'm looking forward to seeing them in court, and in the meantime I'm encouraging everyone to stay away from big gym chains in general and from LA fitness in particular, and instead do bodyweightfitness, nonprofit gyms like YMCA, or other small local gyms.

We showed up Friday at 9:05pm and the doors were locked even though closing time is 10pm. We assumed it was changed hours because of Memorial Day. But we could see that there were ppl still inside. So we asked and the front desk man said he just “didn’t want to let ppl in because ‘some ppl don’t like leaving on time’” we argued with him and he let us in saying “you can come in because you’re being over the top”. We worked out and left by 10.We pay to access the gym during business hours. This gym is always dirty. Weights scattered everywhere and now the employees just lock you out arbitrarily. I extremely regret signing an annual contract.

I am very disappointed with LA Fitness, Silver Spring, because they don't seem to care about keeping the facility clean for the customers. The other day, there were only 2 disinfectant spray bottles for customers to use to wipe down the machines before and after use. Today, there were no disinfectant spray bottles for customers to use so now no one can clean the machines. Also, on many weight machines, the pins are missing so no one can use these machines.

The people at the desk are friendly, but I was misled in the membership and freezing policies and overall had to pay more than was advertised to me when signing. Also, this is one of the worst LA Fitness in terms of equipment with several missing weight pins making many machines unusable and unorganized free weights with many never returned properly. It’s also a pain to cancel a membership, printing and snail mailing a form from online. The only pros going for it is the convenient location in silver spring.

The personal trainers here are rude. As a personal training client, I always feel very discouraged to use the personal training area at the Silver Spring location. Today was the last straw for me. I was using a bench and was told that I cannot use it anymore because the personal trainer has a client. I am a client as well… I will not renew the personal training portion of my membership for next year. I will be looking into cancelling my membership for the remainder of this year. What is the point of paying extra every month if every time I go in, I cannot use what is included with the add-on to my membership?

Two things to remember about LA FITNESS, they only want your membership money, and it's best to have your own previous experience with fitness and workouts. Management is lacking to say the less, some equipment has been in disrepair probably 2 years now and hygiene is questionable. The cleaning staff does their best, but the members... well, I don't know how they came up. Grown men sitting on equipment playing on their phones texting or watching TV blocking other users, people showering everyday using paper towels or hand dryers to dry off never bringing towels ( towels not supplied by the gym by the way ) and some members refuse to wipe down the equipment after sweating over it. The rash of Covid exposure was never addressed in Spring and Summer 2022. Keep your expectations moderate, and you get what you pay for, I guess. And a follow-up: do not store your anythings in the lockers without a lock, they allow too many to walk through the gym and enter the locker room. You can find non-members sleeping and eating in the male locker room in the evening, and as always management has no concerns.

Cancellation was a nightmare. I knew they had an obnoxious cancellation policy, but I followed their protocols and still they gave me a hard time. I sent in my email 2+ weeks before my next payment date (in accordance with their policy), yet they still charged me. I called them 4 separate times. The first time, they said it might not have been long enough to process. Ok, fair. The second time, the receptionist said they received the letter, but it couldn't be processed for some reason. Her manager wasn't in yet, but she said the manager would call me when she got it. Guess what? A week later and never got a call. I called in again and asked for the manager, who was one of the rudest women I ever spoke with. She told me I sent in the "wrong cancellation form", even though I got it directly from their website. She gaslit me into thinking that I sent in the wrong form when guess what? The "correct" form she sent me was exactly the same as the one I sent in. Word for word. She still didn't cancel me and told me I had to come in because I sent the wrong form and she refused to cancel me over the phone, despite being "the highest manager" at that location. I tried calling a different LA Fitness line in a different state and that person was able to cancel me 1,2,3 like it should be. Bless the person that actually helped me. That's how cancellation should be. If it was that way from the beginning, I would have considered going back when my finances are in order, but because of how rude the "manager" was, I will never give LA Fitness my business ever again.

Awful. Dirty. Many machines broken or missing pins. customers play loud music and take tik toks instead of working out. hard to get free weight benches. amazingly only 1 or 2 tvs work in cardio area for past 3 years. Bathroom is well.....

Something name Shelby is the manager there, and she is rude AF; she thinks she owns the place at $18/hr SMH.

This gym has broken equipment everywhere and nothing is ever clean. Wait for the Golds Gym to open or go to Planet Fitness before giving this place money. Seriously.

Very mid-quality gym. Unfortunately, much of the equipment can be out of order, and they lack enough crucial equipment. They also rarely replace missing weights and of course gym etiquette takes a back seat. At all times of the day. It has to do though, until I move to an area with better equipment. Hopefully it improves one day too
