Just purchased a charming children's book at Paper Mermaid while visiting Rockport: "A Day in Rockport: Scenes From a Coastal Town", illustrated by store owner Mary Faino. Mary kindly inscribed a personal message for my grandnephew. I highly recommend the store -- and the book!

My daughter and I spent a night in Rockport in December. Their selection of beautiful and unique cards and wrapping papers was so amazing. Lovely assortment of fun gifts for all ages. It was hard to stop perusing through the store. Very happy with our purchases and very friendly shop owners.

Such a nice store to find while wandering around! The staff was so friendly and the items they had stocked were really nice. The artists' artwork is lovely and whimsical too! I'll definitely stop in whenever I'm in town.

Discovered this darling little place today, and fell in love. It is so bright, whimsical, and inviting! And owner Mary is delightful, warm and friendly. She was a pleasure to chat with, I enjoyed swapping stories as I browsed and ultimately found the PERFECT piece of artwork (of which she's the artist!). I couldn't leave the store without it

This store is more than a store: it is an artistic experience, an oasis of warmth even on the coldest New England day. I have been going there on every visit to the Boston area since it opened, and invariably have found not just stunning and unique gifts, but a warm vibe. Most recently, the artist-owner has added a line of her own artwork—in cards, prints, and books. A wonderful shop-art gallery.

My family has been visiting the town of Rockport for over twenty years. In the past five years one of our daughters and her young family has been enjoying Rockport with us. Unfortunately, this past trip, we had a traumatizing experience in The Paper Mermaid. The old woman who sometimes runs the shop verbally abused my five year old granddaughter, my daughter and myself and in front of many other costumers. Emie was gently playing with several of the mermaid dolls. This woman stomped up to us and SCREAMED, "Is this your CHILD?" "She can't touch those dolls!" "They will get dirty!" And on and on... until we left the store, dumbfounded by the hatred this old woman was spewing.

UNpleasant! I come to rockport every 4th of July shop with my mom. I walked into paper mermaid unlike all the other shops with genuine nice staff, the clerk at paper mermaid was pleasantly rude. SHe didn't great us,never left the counter. I saw it was paper goods. It I asked about a soap she was selling and if she had the lotion too? She replied she didn't sell that stuff only the soap bc she liked it. then she didn't ask me, she stated I could leave the soap on The counter and continue shopping and she also stated that I could put my bags down on the counter. OBVIOUSLY from my years of college retail jobs I knew she was treating me like a shoplifter. SHe could have just politely got out from behind desk and asked me questions offered to help that's how you politely prevent shop lifters instead she treated my like a criminal maybe because Maybe I wasn't dressed to her standards idk also when I tried to pay she was rude like I didn't have money she said oh there's a ten dollar minimum I didn't have cash since I spent it at the other stores , so I had to ask my mother instead of offering me and ad on sale to meet the minimum it was awkward and uncomfortable, she was rude and didn't obviously want my business! terrible Never go! go to shops anywhere else IN Rockport they carry the same and better items

As a grandmother of only a few years, I was thrilled to find The Paper Mermaid. They have a wonderful selection of books and toys for children - all high quality. My grandson has loved everything I buy there.

I never get tired of stopping by The Paper Mermaid for the selection of beautiful and useful items. It's clear that Mary, the owner, has a great eye for stocking her store, which makes sense as she's an artist. The staff is great as well -- friendly and knowledgeable. My kids love going to The Paper Mermaid as much as I do, so it's a win-win.
