I've been going to Durst for about 40 years. It used to be my Store Of Last Resort because the people were consistently unfriendly and not at all helpful. (Except for the lumber desk, who mostly were A-OK)Things have changed recently. Over the last several months, I've been there repeatedly. The employees are mostly friendlier and most are helpful. On the floor, the person named Al is outstandingly helpful and always cheerful. At the lumber desk, they are helpful, as they always have been. I like dealing with Ron because he's fun to joke around with and always helps me save money. The cashiers are friendly, fast and accurate.Hardware cost wise, Durst is usually a bit higher that other hardware stores, but lower than any Great Lakes Ace. And, some items are cheaper at Durst. Plus, at Durst one can get in & get out quickly.Lumber costs more at Durst than at a big box store, but Durst has good wood. (Well, as good as wood gets these days..) The big box stores keep the wood inside, where the air is conditioned (heated, cooled, dry, humid). That's bad for wood. Durst stores it outside, under cover and properly stacked. Therefore, the project has less waste. In the long run, it's usually cheaper to shop for lumber at Durst despite the higher cost per board foot. Plus, at Durst you don't have to dig through junk wood, nor do you have to load it. They even will cut to spec if desired. As long as the new and improved attitudes stay, I'll continue to go to Durst.

A good place to get that part you just can't find at the big box stores.

This was my first time at this Ace Hardware, I was able to find a blue toilet seat, most places you have to order online . I found some other things. The customer service is always great at Ace Hardware's Stores.

Durst Ace Hardware is something of a landmark in Berkley, not the least because telling someone 'turn right at Durst' gets them into town! They literally have a landmark polar bear and the big old lumber yard thrumming with activity greets me most mornings on my way out and about. The store carries the standard array of home hardware, ranging from plumbing supplies to Purdy 2.5" angled sash paintbrushes and handsoap. A small but fascinating array of Michigan products make for great gifts or stocking stuffers. I'm always finding something interesting when I visit, often of an unexpected need I haven't thought about in a while. The old-school feel of a hardware store applies here, making it easy to get lost in the long aisles and emerge in a Hallmark movie on a rainy day. Seriously, you can really find a few gems exploring the long, narrow shelves!Employees are great, catering to questions from me as a befuddled non-handyperson and clearly dealing well with the experts too. Never had a time where someone wasn't willing to throw in to help out.Always check their hours! Durst seems to magically close 5 minutes after I realize I need something from them. Their fenced lot has gates, so if they're closed, they mean it!

Saved me money with some great recommendations and didn't oversell me. Cut my boards and loaded my vehicle. Excellent service. Hometown feel!

Great service. Had just what I needed (wood and galvanized spikes) to repair a 4x4 garden edge.

I love supporting local business so instead going to a big name paint store I came here instead. The staff was helpful with the paint I needed but unfortunately the cashier was incredibly rude. First she scolded me pointing her finger saying to me that the line was “over there” and for a moment I thought I had cut in front of someone not realizing but then when I moved “over there” no one was standing waiting, just me. Then she said next. So I stepped up (again) to pay. She rang me up and I paid however she missed one of the items I had. She rang me up separately for that which was under $5 and all I had was my debit card. She proceeded to scold me again this time letting me know that my item was under $5 and asked me for cash though I had just spent over $75 on the first transaction. I said it’s fine, I don’t need this and she then tells me this time is ok but now you know for next. There won’t be a next time. Not sure what her deal was but totally uncalled for to be talked to like that. Ridiculous, no thanks.

?Durst. Lumber and hardware has a great helpful staff, excellent product and service. It's like going to a hallmark a hardware store and a lumber yard all in one. It is a neatly organized little gem that is filled with everything you would need to complete a DIY project as well as many gift ideas, and while you shop you are welcome to a free bag of delicious freshly popped popcorn, who could beat that deal? I have been here multiple times and each time mirrors the last. 5 stars.??

Just did a quick run in. Found some cool clearance items. They did not have what I was looking for. It was something they no longer carry. The gentleman answered some other questions I had. Very helpful.

When I want the best for myself or a cluent this is the place. I needed clear prime high rosin pine for some vintage style window screeens. There was no reason to go anywhere else.
