One of the sleekest vintage stores around. I love shopping here at Christmas for ornaments and once found some stunning paper folding Christmas trees that I can't wait to put out every year. Love love LOVE the blue room. I wish I could afford and find places for it all.

What started as a magical winter day would ultimately be remembered as a Hallmark horror story. I had heard good things about this place, and I wanted to like it. However, after the unsavory customer service experience I received from the elderly women behind the counter, I dare say I shall not return. The day we met, I was coming from the lovely bakery and coffee shop next door. After a delicious danish and handcrafted espresso drink, I recognized the storefront, having heard about it from a friend's mother when we last saw each other for lunch. It seemed like the stars were aligned. We browsed the shop, and it felt antiquated, not only in the selection of merchandise, but the proprietresses and their clientele. The limited hours suggest their façade could simply be a vanity project for suburban divorcées to spend their days, and ex-husband's retirement savings, feeling nostalgic for a time when they knew beauty and love. I made my selections, a candle and a crystal, and brought them to the counter. One of the elderly women suggested that I buy an additional stand for the crystal, to which I replied, no thank you, as I already have a display case. I was discourteously dismissed with a hushed sigh of "well most people just buy the stand." Tragic foreshadowing of what's to come. The day of the return is when Mrs. Dr. Jekyll turned into Mrs. Hyde... Certainly such a successful proprietress of such a successful business would stand by the quality of their products and customer service, and wouldn't need to solicit five star reviews from accounts with the same last name, no photo and only one review. However, on this delightfully balmy Wednesday afternoon in December, arguing with the only customer in an empty store was the force majeure. "We can't take it back, we're a small shop, and we get charged 2.5%," quoth the proprietress. 2.5% of $40 is $1, and that $1 is the undue hardship for her business, not the free Prosecco she offers her customers on Saturdays, which I had politely declined. Advice to management: read your terms of service for your credit card providers, and if you don't want to pay transaction fees, perhaps you would prefer only accepting cash? Although had I paid with cash, I would have no protections and be at the mercy of an entitled woman with a bruised ego who clearly doesn't accept "no" for an answer. I would empathize with the small shop angle if it were a local butcher or grocer putting food on the table for their young children, but it's a mildly exaggerated claim coming from wealthy divorcées who sell wealthy divorcée items to other wealthy divorcées, while serving alcohol on the premises without a liquor license. There are too many beloved neighborhood institutions closing for this hostile and frivolous environment to stay in business, and I look forward to reading about them in the weekly articles on business closures in neighborhood publications. Given the option of store credit, I politely declined, as there were no other items of interest to me in the shop. However, she was going to keep the merchandise and have me leave with nothing. I let her know that should a refund be unavailable, I would rather keep the merchandise and dispute it via the proper channels, having made a good faith effort to resolve it with the merchant herself. She had the audacity to say, "well if you're going to be like that, fine!" as she hastily tossed my items back in their bag with a huff, and conveniently kept the handwritten receipt. Now I had two returns to make on this trip, and there could not have been a more clearly defined distinction between night and day. The next small shop assisted me with ease, helpful and friendly, with conviviality and joie de vivre, inspiring me to become a regular customer. There was no pretense of arrogance or hubris, as if a customer wishing to make a return should be publicly shamed before, (looks around) all the other customers in the [empty] store? (Crickets chirping) Perhaps I would have h

Nature’s first green is gold,Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf.So Eden sank to grief,So dawn goes down to day.Nothing gold can stay.-Robert Frost

I am looking to curate my new house and had heard good things about this place, but I spent a good ten minutes in the shop browsing and was never greeted. I even saw a few frames I'd have purchased had the staff been more welcoming.

I've been a fan of Victory for years and love that every time I pop in there's a new treasure I didn't know I needed. They have the perfect assortment of vintage bar wear (think old-school champagne buckets, coup glasses, cut crystal wine coasters, you name it), gently used & new coffee table books, trays & plates, and that extra little 'je ne sais quoi' that will take your home decor to the next level. They also have great cocktail napkins, rugs, and picture frames & even jewelry and vintage handbags (something that your elegant, rich aunt would wear). If you're decorating or need a little pick me up--this place is a treasure trove of goodies. I try to pop in every few months to see what's new to the shop and chat with the sweetest shop keepers (they're helpful, kind, & so thoughtful). In a time when Amazon reigns king and it's easy to tap & swipe your way to cheap home decor, this is a true gem of a shop to make your home feel intentional & beautiful. It's definitely worth a special trip or to pop into while you're in the area.

Word of mouth brought me to Vintage Victory on 44th. I got excited on entering because I could sense I found a place with a European vibe. The owners have a good eye for choosing their inventory and they are experienced in styling and staging. Tip: Ask them to stage hour home. I felt they truly liked helping me find the unique piece(s) and how to best incorporate it in my space. in' joi!
