Visited restaurant which was fantastic...but hotel itself needs TLC attention...hotel owners need to address the bathrooms and general maintenace of the building..

To many homeless people hanging around the hotel and the plaza. The ones we encountered were aggressive. Rooms are ok, however in need of updates. 10.00 parking in a sketchy area. Not what I was expecting!

I have stayed around Taos for years, although never in the plaza area. This hotel is literally "older than dirt", it is located in an awesome location for walking around and seeing things, but not on the luxurious side. We stayed here 6 nights, it is an absolute must to bring earplugs, the walls are paper thin, you can hear the neighboring rooms fart and hack and sneeze. It had a quaint feeling but was definitely very old and mostly all of the amenities are in need of a renovation. When you turn on the shower, the water comes out of the bathtub faucet halfway and out of the shower head halfway, the remote control battery cover continuously falls off, as well as having to manipulate the batteries to get the power button to function, once on, there was no trouble with controlling all functions of the television. The ceiling fan had a light bulb missing and the hardwood floor was creaky. There was a microwave downstairs in the lobby, behind the bar that has the hotel's souvenirs displayed along the counter. Behind the bar with the microwave is also a refrigerator, aspirin, toothpaste, tampons, and other necessities. I would stay here again, but I try to be thorough and honest in my reviews because some places are not for everyone. If you decide to stay here, be ready to hear everyone's business as well as the music from downstairs. Maybe from the coffee shop that is located in the lobby. The staff are wonderful and there is parking located behind the building for a $10 daily rate. Arrive in the front of the building where there is a designated unloading area and then you can park in the lot and enter through the back of the building and arrive at the elevator that services 2 floors and a basement, but do not know what is down there.

It was a childhood dream to get to stay there, but the difficulty getting to Room 121 was crazy. Up the elevator, then the steps down, then up to our room. It's not easy with a big suitcase. I suggest they have a bellhop to assist you.

We came here to spend a night for my wife's 50th birthday. We arrived a bit early and asked if we could check in. The front desk attendant checked to see if the room was ready and it was! He told us he would be happy to check us in early, so we went and got situated. The room had a nice couch and a gas fireplace in the corner. The decor was a little worn, but it was a cozy room with a great view of the plaza from a balcony! Everything was clean, and as expected. It did get a little chilly later in the evening, and the front desk attendant went out of his way to locate a space heater that would toast up the room a bit. We had a great stay, we enjoyed walking around the plaza; briefly as it was freezing out, and it was very nice being so close to every type of restaurant you could desire. Keep up the good work and the great customer service!

We just left Taos. Stayed 12/29-12/31/23Was a little disappointed the restaurant wasn’t open. But not that big of a deal plenty of places to eat. But paying to park in a parking lot that’s gravel. Tore a wheel off my suitcase. Could easily pour a few concrete sidewalks to help get your luggage across the parking lot.Rooms: Small but comfy.Nearby activities: Plenty of shopping and restaurants.Walkability: Everything is within a 15 minute walk.Noteworthy details: Shouldn’t have to pay to park in hotel parking lot after spending $200+ a night to stay.

Really lovely hotel with fantastic service and a gorgeous interior. Would definitely stay again: this would be a 4.5 if Google gave me the option, as I was a little miffed at having to pay for parking, but other than that this was great.

Convenient location in the "main" plaza for shopping, etc. They do have a parking lot in the back of the hotel, which, you must make sure to get the parking slip to display and there is a per day fee. We managed to get a parking spot on the plaza. The rooms are pretty dated & small. No windows that you could look out & no view. The bathroom was dated as well. The rooms were clean, as well as the bed linens. The elevator took a long time, and it was easier to take the stairs. The area felt kinda of sketchy in the later evening into night as the shops closed down, etc. If I had it to do again, I would stay 2 nights at the LA Fonda in Santa Fe (they aren't associated) and overnight for the 1 night in Taos instead of the 2 I did. The staff was SO nice & they have a little cafe downstairs in the lobby for pastries and coffee, closed by later in the afternoon. I'm glad I did visit and stayed in the historic property, however, don't believe I would go out of my way to stay again unless they did a major renovation.Walkability: Right on the plaza and within blocks of the rest of "downtown" Taos.

Taos is expensive, and so is this. If you're just staying for convenience or the historical aspect, great. Otherwise, an airbnb might be a better choice for the cost. The customer service was 50/50. You have to get the highest priced rooms to like your room. The "Cafe" isn't worth going to. There's no restaurant in the motel anymore. Also, parking is $10 a night for a barely lit, sketchy dirt patch in the back. Not happy about that. Maybe this was a grand place 100 years ago, but sadly, it is not anymore. Really wanted to like it here, but instead, was just disappointed.

Fun, quaint, comfortable. Walls could use sound proofing, but if there are no children or loud adults in the next room, you'll be perfectly happy.Food & drinks: Substantial free breakfast, and walking distance to a steak house and a Mexican restaurant for lunch and dinner.
