“If you live in the neighborhood who needs Broadway when this local supermarket has just about everything....and some things that you never thought you needed. The best part about this supermarket is that it's got its own little butcher shop in the back where they will clean up your meats and cut to any specified desire.I feel like the meats are way fresher than what is available on Broadway in most cases. The supermarket is family owned and operated and I have been visiting them for years!”

“Incredible selection of produce and top-shelf prepared foods. And not in an overwhelming way!Prices are high - maybe 25% to 50% higher than they need to be. Helps that the staff are friendly and the hours are convenient.”

“Lily's Vegan Pantry is a jackpot for frozen vegan goodies at fair prices. They've got a solid range of vegan meats that can jazz up your plant-based cooking game. Plus, the staff here is nice and quick to help you out. I splurged on the vegan oxtail for $13, and let's just say it wasn't my thing. Ended up tossing the whole thing. Also grabbed a couple of onigiris at $5 a pop, but they were seriously lacking in the veggie meat department - felt like munching on plain rice balls. On the flip side, their beef jerky was a flavor bomb, totally worth snagging. Lily's Vegan Pantry is a go-to spot for stocking up on vegan cooking essentials without burning a hole in your pocket. Just skip the ready made items.”

“This has been my go-to market since it first appeared in our neighborhood. It has a community feel to it, and I never see or experience any drama there. How many places can you say that about in a city as big as New York City?”

“I work near here and it's a nice alternative for lunch. The hot bar has reasonably good selections. I appreciate that it is a full grocery store in the neighborhood so I can also get whole, fresh fruit. They also have an extensive selection of vegetable and fruit juices.”

“I have been here occasionally for the past year, usually for small things like produce, milk, or meat. The price is more reasonable than the super foodtown nearby although the selection is more limited and certain items can be more expensive. The super low rating on yelp seems excessive. I have never have any unpleasant interaction with the people that worked there or other shoppers. The groceries seems more tailored to the Dominican population including some meats that you won't find in a typical grocery store like pig ear, ox tail, tripe, and I like it for that. I always got a good deal on avocadoes here, often less than a dollar each which is hard to find in New York nowadays. Most other packaged things are pretty typical for a grocery store, with typical prices. They occasionally have sales but not too often.”

“I love this place. It's better than the Ctown supermarket down the street. Shop Fair has a mix of Latin, Asian, Caribbean, and general US American groceries. The prices aren't bad either.”

“We were just visiting New York for the weekend. We were looking for some food to take with us on the train. We found some nice bananas that were reasonably priced at $.89 a pound. And then at the deli we found a beautiful almond, strawberry, blueberry, spinach salad for nine dollars. It was just right for the two of us. The deli worker gave us two little containers of salad dressing. Add in some cookies, yogurt and chips and we were set. The store downstairs had a lot to offer!! It was clean and easy to find the things we wanted. We were glad to find the store!”

“I guess it's partially not their fault, but prices are RIDICULOUS at this point... and I notice a lot less people shopping there than before. Still, the staff is nice and they have a great selection if you need Spanish/Dominican products.”

“This is the BEST Whole Foods- Ive been going to the one in my neighborhood for 24 years. I walk a little extra -through Madison Square Park to this one on Madison because of the overall quality of the produce, dairy (not sold out- it seems the whole Foods closest to me has people shopping for their groceries & since COVID it has doubled(?) - so many times I cannot find the milk or other dairy) and the butcher department is incredible. The only area that seems "lean" is the bread department- but it is still good. This is a wonderful food shopping experience- and a membership in Prime helps with the sales.”

“Even if you just go in for the experience, it's different and a fun way. I work nearby and go here for all my Asian supplies. Have a Chinese co-worker who keeps me on point when I need help with certain things to get. But you can find everything in this place. Can get tricky to find stuff that is helpful if you don't know what you want unless you find somebody who speaks English well, And some of them do. But it helps to have to have an idea of what you're looking for. Don't like go in there totally clueless and expecting a tour guide or something like that. It's like any other supermarket. They expect you to kind of have an idea of what you want. But it's a great experience just being in there and looking around even if you don't buy anything, which I guarantee you you will.”

“The best thing about this place is the low prices, when u usually buy food in other markets, u leave with bags, in this place for the same amount of money, u leave with 3 bags.”

“Well that's the first time I ever went there. The store was very clean. But it was a little too expensive for me. The stores in Manhattan I live in Brooklyn so it was kind of expensive but I will shop there if I lived there..”

“Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The deli counter serves fresh sandwiches to order as well as prepared foods made day-of, from salmon to avocado salad and chicken cooked a million ways. The produce section is very fresh. I treat Lanes as my grocery store as well as a place to pick up sandwiches on my lunch hour. A true neighborhood gem!!”

“Same store as usual. Sad to see that a lot of the great selections of international and gourmet foods are no longer stocked. They sold out, so you'd think the inventory would be reordered. But no. My Escargot ever came back. Gone is the liquid Goat Milk. Just to name a couple. What they do have is an overabundance of the same items from many different companies. Do we only need so much Tropicana & one or two others? The beef has too much gristle. They call it marbling. It looks like beef from an over-fed, overweight cow. That is how all that fat gets into the muscle fibers. Humans get it, too.Their store ground beef has been known to have been made from their cuts of meat which did not sell, which is standard practice, they just wait until a little to close to the Sell By date to to grind it. When you but it, often it is pink on the outside, but already turning grey or is grey on the inside. It also appears to be more than 20% fat.I do like that they have the Cactus Fruit from the plant that the Nopals come from that are used in Mexican food. I wish the Dragon Fruits would return as well as the Star Fruits. The prices need to come down. They are pricing things to compete with Fairway & Whole Foods, not the local Fine Fare, C-Town and Key Food.It had less selection as Associated, it wasn't as fancy before the renovation, but the prices were in line with the neighborhood where many residents receive EBT Food Stamps. Prices were about 1/3 of what they are now in most cases. Which leads me to think that this store is raking it in by overcharging for items and has most of its Accounts Receivable income coming from the coffers of the US Government Alimentary Food Program Office.”

“I was pleasantly surprised! A lot of the grocery stores uptown are cluttered and the produce is sub par, I walked into this store and was greeted by the neatest most pristinely shelved fresh produce I've seen uptown. Both levels are very well stocked and well kept and I'm happy that this store is the go to for my new home. The seafood section looked very fresh as well, can't wait to try next time!”

“Mom shops here all the time ..has a favorite cashier ..prices for the Chelsea area are outlandish....so Ideal Market place is the place to go food shopping..unless you don't care Go to Gristides you can get Lysol and a thin roll of hand towels for 13.49!So Ideal Market is more affordable compared to Gristides.”

“Pioneer has an exceptional curated selection of meats, fresh vegetables, milk/eggs/yogurt, oils/spices, and baklava! My husband and I shop at Pioneer exclusively. We've cooked much more because of Pioneer and it has been fun. And I'd like to mention - the staff is kind, efficient, and welcoming to all. Thanks Pioneer!- Kathleen, one of your neighbors and customers”

“They have products from Austria and the Pacific!!!I was looking for lingonberry Sauce which is delicious and goes great with meatballs, pork, turkey and even ice cream, it's absolutely delicious!!!Everyone should try it!!!”

“By UES standards, this is a great grocery store. Has excellent variety / selection. Some items are reasonably priced, others are exorbitantly expensive. I try to do most of my shopping at Trader Joe's, farmer's markets and then come to MW for anything else I need. Have tried a few things from their prepared foods section (e.g., packaged pasta salads) - nothing mindblowing, but not bad.”
