I always have a fantastic meal at the 1820 house. Whether it be a specialty dinner or something off the tavern menu, I have never been disappointed. Expect a wait time for your meal as everything is made to order. Trust me, it will be worth the wait. If you haven’t checked out this hidden gem yet you are missing out. I highly suggest making a reservation.

Incredible experience, the food was out of this world amazing! They serve anywhere from American traditional dinners to New Zealand lamb and beyond! Highly recommend this place to anyone who is a foodie and loves great wines and beers! The staff was awesome! Courteous, kind, and always willing to change foods based on dietary needs (my wife has celiacs disease) I will definitely be coming back here again!

Wonderful spot for dinner and views of the sunset! We went Saturday after the Apple Festival for a table of four and were seated immediately. They have two menus-tavern and restaurant. You can order from both if you want to. Service was excellent. We had salads to start and the lettuce was really fresh. Next was the oysters. The sauce was perfect and the oysters cooked to perfection. For the main course i had the lobster and chicken piccata. Again this dish did not disappoint. Servings are large so expect leftovers. During the meal the sun was setting and the view was spectacular. Make this a def stop to eat while in town

**DIRTY** As we pulled into the driveway, we were taken by the paint peaking off of the building, the abandoned cars in the parking lot, the walkway that was overgrown with weeds, and the rotted access ramp leading up to the front door. As we entered the building, we couldn't help but notice the smell. Not a good smell - sort of old and moldy. We walked through an empty room with one small table to get to the "hostess stand" and noticed dead potted plants and a huge mess of papers around the bar area. As they took us to our table, we walked to the outside deck and noticed a coat rack full of winter snow pants and jackets (in August). Our table wasn't ready so we were asked to grab a drink at the bar - which gave us an entirely new appreciation for the bar area. I can't find a word to describe the depth of "filthy" that we experienced in the bar. The bar top was sticky and the bar area was a huge mess. I'd love to be able to tell you about the food but we didn't get that far. We left for fear that their low standards would find us in the hospital. The impression made by what did see makes us extremely concerned over what we couldn't see (i.e., the kitchen). I'm sure they're all really nice people, but this place is a potential food poisoning disaster. Sorry, but rather than making a reservation, I'd suggest you first contact the board of health.

It takes a rare talent to turn a perfect summer evening on a picturesque patio into a misery, but the 1820 House pulled it off. We arrived at 6:15 with the idea of having a burger and a beer and being back home in time for sunset on the water. Three hours later, we drove home in darkness, a moody silence clouding the car. Over the course of the endless wait for our food, during which we honestly thought we might be on a candid camera prank show, our glum server mostly appeared to tell us things they were out of. First: burgers. Then an hour later she materialized to tell us they were out of fries. To be fair, they did warn us ahead of time that the kitchen was a little slow, as the chef "makes everything to order." As if preparing a dish to order is unusual for a restaurant. Sometimes something is so good it's worth the wait, so there would have been a tinge of forgiveness if the food was spectacular. But what arrived at the table was standard bar fare. My (second-choice) buffalo chicken sandwich may as well have been sitting under a heat lamp for two hours. Doubly disappointing in that I could have driven to Buffalo in the time it took to get to me. Someone at our table noticed the exotic touch of Montreal steak rub on his mediocre steak salad. And the crab cakes came with two creative dipping sauces -- a ramekin of ketchup and a dollop of Hellman's. The draft beers are also comically small but priced like full pints. I don't normally write bad Yelp reviews, but I honestly feel obligated to warn people about how horrible this place is -- especially since you might waste an entire night of your vacation there. The staff is robotic, humorless and unaccommodating, with service that is unbelievably and unjustifiably slow. Soup to nuts, the worst dining experience I've had in years. Avoid at all costs -- the costs ain't cheap, either! Save yourself three hours and $100 and stop at the Roy Rogers before you get off the Thruway.

The food and views are very good. I've never had a meal indoors because the patio is too good to pass up. I deducted stars because of the lack of upkeep of the building and patio. I'd love to see them power wash/stain the deck, paint the house and replace plastic seating with something more substantial and worthy of the food and views. Also maybe get rid of the rusty swing set and plant a garden or some flowers.
