Calvert County Residents Will Soon See Their Own Marshalls Store

Marshalls recently signed a lease to open a store at the Shoppes at Apple Greene in Dunkirk.

According to ECHO Retail Director of Marketing Laura Wenger, with the lease being signed, it makes the project official.

Tom Heil, president of the Commissioners, said one of the board's priorities was to encourage economic growth in the town centers.

Wenger said the store would open sometime in first half of 2018 - the same for the Harris Teeter project. There are roughly 30 Marshalls in the state of Maryland, but none for Calvert County. The closest Marshalls residents can visit is in Brandywine.

Linda Vassallo, Calvert's interim Economic Development director, said she is happy that ECHO Retail was able to sign two national tenants up for the new retail center.

ECHO also owns Calvert Village, which is located in Prince Frederick and is the spot for the first Calvert County TJ Maxx. TJX Companies owns both TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

ECHO Retail's services include leasing, brokerage, property management, and development and construction management.

In April, Calvert County Planning Commission approved a site plan for the project named the Shoppes at Apple Greene.

Marrick Properties in Prince Frederick and ECHO Realty announced their joint efforts to bring Marshalls to the area. A number of public planning talks had suggested that the retailer would open a store in Dunkirk,

The Shoppes at Apple Greene will be about 100,000 square feet and located along Ward Road and Route 4. Marshalls will be 21,000 square foot and be the second anchor for the location with Harris Teeter being the first. Both Harris Teeter and Marshalls should open around the same time. Along with these two anchor stores, there is still 30,000 square feet for more retailers and restaurants to come in.

Construction for Harris Teeter, which will be 48,000 square feet has commenced. It's not known how many people the stores plan on hiring.
