CarMax To Open Two New Stores In Puget Sound Area

CarMax, which is known as the largest used car retailer in the U.S., will hire over 120 people for two new stores in the Puget Sound area - Puyallup and Lynnwood. They are set to open in March.

The company is in search of both full-time and part-time employees and will offer a $5,000 sign-on bonus to the automotive technicians. The company can apply for CarMax jobs at

The Richmond, Virginia-based car dealer has over 150 stores around the U.S., establishing nearly 13 new stores each year. The company is big enough to hit the Fortune 500 list of the nation's wealthiest companies.

In 2014, CarMax expanded to the state of Washington by opening a location in Spokane. The locations in Puyallup and Lynnwood will be the first stores in the region of Puget Sound.

The Lynnwood CarMax is being developed where the Detroit Autoworks once was located. It'll be nearly 20,000-square feet, a one-story building and include 580 parking stalls (178 for employees and customers, and 402 for sales) and a 926-square foot car wash.

CarMax is hiring people for its service, business and sales operations. It's also looking for technicians, painters and inventory reps. While technicians are required to have previous experience, other CarMax job requirements are not as stringent. People who have worked in retail are welcome to apply.

CarMax was established during the 1990s by Circuit City executives who wanted to establish a national retail chain that wasn't a direct competitor. In 2009, Circuit City closed its doors and invested $50 million toward the CarMax idea. Its first sold vehicle in 1993 was a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

CarMax became a company all its own in 1997 and is traded under the KMX name and symbol.
