Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc. recently announced the building of 25 new Chicago-area restaurants during the next five years, leading to 700 new jobs.
According to the company, Chicago is a key growth market, with 64 established restaurants and the possibility of tripling its presence.
Pete Lyders-Petersen signed Arby's development agreements to open 20 restaurants in Chicago's north and northwest suburbs. Faisal Merchant will open five downtown Chicago and Southwest Chicago suburb locations. Both Merchant and Lyders-Petersen will be new franchisees in the Arby system.
ARG Chief Development Officer Greg Vojnovic said the organization understands how to create well-performing restaurants in big cities like Chicago. He said the company was thrilled to have both developers - Pete and Faisal - join the Arby's family.
Merchant, who operates three Wingstop restaurants and 19 Dunkin' Donuts in the Chicago area, said Arby's has had tremendous growth the last few years. Each Arby's franchisee Merchant spoke to remarked about its culture.
Petersen, who operates 12 KFC restaurants and about 200 Taco Bell restaurants in the Midwest, said he loves Arby's culture and its leadership. The more he got to know the brand, the clearer it became to him that he needed to be a part of it.
Arby's key priority is to develop more restaurants. The company has been aggressive in opening more restaurants in cities throughout the nation - Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Atlanta, to name a few.
