Olive Garden, in response to calorie-conscious consumers, have revealed a new menu that is diet-friendly and still has tasteful as they heavy-calorie pasta plates.
The restaurant is calling the menu "Tastes of the Mediterranean", and it includes seven tasty dishes that dieters should try right away. For people who love the Shrimp Scampi or the Classic Chicken Parmesan, there's no reason to fret. These meals are on the menu too - all of them are under 600 calories.
Herb-Grilled Salmon - 460 calories
The herb-grilled salmon is the new menu's healthiest choice. The salmon filet is grilled with the skin on so it stays extremely moist. Before it's served, the skin is removed. It comes with a side of broccoli and a garlic-herb butter.
Shrimp Scampi - 500 calories
Rather than being loaded down with heavy cream, the lighter shrimp scampi is sauteed in olive oil and includes tomatoes, asparagus and angel hair pasta.
Chicken Piccata - 500 calories
If you love chicken, then the chicken piccata may be what you're after. It comes with two chicken breasts with lemon-garlic butter, capers and sun-dried tomatoes on top. It also comes with a side of Parmesan-crusted zucchini. If you're watching how much salt you eat, you may want to forgo this option. It's a bit on the salty side.
Grilled Chicken Parmigiana - 540 calories
Rather than deep fried and battered chicken for your chicken parmigiana, you get grilled chicken that's been smothered in marinara sauce along with Italian cheese. There are enough breadcrumbs to give the crunch you want without the additional calories and fat.
Linguine Di Mare - 570 calories
A house-made Pomodoro sauce is sauteed into this shrimp and mussels dish before it's tossed into the whole-grain linguine. A breadstick allows you to soak up the dish's sauce.
Chicken Margherita - 590 calories
Two grilled chicken breasts make up the Chicken Margherita dish, and its toppings include basil pesto, mozzarella cheese and fresh tomatoes. It's given a bit of zip with the lemon-garlic sauce. It comes with a side of cheesy zucchini slices in crispy breadcrumbs.
