The National Hot Rod Association recently bestowed its Official Pizza Partner award to Papa John's International Inc.
Papa John's, which has more than 5,500 locations throughout the world, is committed to its "Better Ingredients, Better Pizza" guarantee. The guarantee isn't just about its ingredients but also the people and customer service. For 15 of the last 17 years, it's ranked number 1 in customer satisfaction on the American Customer Satisfaction Index among all pizza brands.
The partnership between the restaurant and the NHRA is a continuation of Papa John's involvement in the NHRA's sports drag racing, which started last season. The restaurant sponsored Top Fuel racer Leah Pritchett and Don Schumacher Racing. Pritchett ran her black and gold dragster during the season, starting in Seattle.
Her vehicle's paint scheme is similar to the Papa John's founder John Schnatter sold in 1984 - a 1971 Chevy Camaro Z28 - to keep the restaurant from going into bankruptcy. Papa John's will come back to the DSR in 2017 as the main sponsor for Pritchett. She's already doing great this season, attaining a career best of 3.654 in the Nitro Spring Training at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park earlier this month.
Since Papa John's the NHRA's Official Pizza Partner, it will be present at all 24 NHRA Mellow-Yellow Drag Racing Series events and on FOX Sports Broadcasts during 2017.
Brad Gerber is the NHRA Vice President and Chief Development Officer. Gerber said the organization was happy that the restaurant chain was expanding its relationship with the NHRA, the Papa John's Top Fuel Dragster and Don Schumacher Racing. He said there was a plethora of success and growth during 2016, which led to more opportunities for the NHRA and its partners like Papa John's. Gerber said the NHRA would like to see that success carry into 2017.
Schnatter said he was proud that Papa John's was named the NHRA's Official Pizza Partner, and he hopes they'll be able to connect with fans at races around the country. Schnatter said Pritchett and Don Schumacher became a part of the Papa John's family in 2016 and it officially welcomes the NHRA to the family.
